I do a lot of off freeway driving. But, whatever route is the fastest either just driving or pulling. You miss a lot of USA on the I's though.

To the OP....I myself wouldn't worry enough about 75 miles +/- to get off on a stop/go side road that I'm not familiar with. Crusin' down the interstate at 62mph, (my speed choice), is plenty good with me.

We don't follow a set route and take diversions whenever there's something over the horizon that we want to experience. I retired to get away for from the corporate stove-pipe mentality -- we're free to explore this great country!

you won't know how your rig will do 'till you try it. I use both type of hiway systems. Using the small state hiways out here where towns big enough to have just one stop sign can be a hours drive or more. I get my best mpgs from those type drives empty truck or towing my 11200 GVWR 5er as some hiway speeds are 55-60 mph max. Try it and see.

Actually I only run the interstates when I have to. Usually more construction and traffic slowdowns on the interstaes than on back roads.
Having said that. If I am really on a tight schedule or I'm on unfamiliar roads and I am pulling double then I'm on the wide cncrete.

In general we like to stay on interstates and turnpikes. Better roads, fuel and services are available.Most C'G's are handy to major roads...A constant speed is more efficent that stop and go through cities and towns. If there is something or someplace we want to go or see we will travel whatever road we have to. It is not a money thing as it can cost more to travel interstates/turnpikes.

We love to get off the interstate and take the scenic side roads. Much more relaxing to drive them, you can actually enjoy the drive instead of worrying about all the traffic flying around you.

I'd take the scenic route. However, you want to make sure about height and width restrictions that may be in place because of construction or other reasons.
