I have a 2006 Northstar 650 popup camper, and I've noticed a few small holes appearing in the popup material, mostly near the corners where the popup material bends a lot when lowering the roof. I asked Northstar, and they sent me a small container of liquid similar to nail polish, but it doesn't quite do the job of sealing the holes. After a month or so the sealant wears off. Anyone have any suggestions on the best way to seal these small holes before they become big holes?
Thanks.
I would be concerned that more holes could open at any time. That material appears to be single-ply Weblon.
I would suggest using a material strip wide and long enough to laminate 1 inch each side of all your corners. The material should be the same color as your existing softwalls, of course.
You would need to get advice on the lamination procedure from a marina that does these kind of repairs regularly and attempt it yourself. Or, better yet have the marina do the lamination, and give you a guarantee.
In the meantime, use a urethane-based fabric repair/sealer to strengthen that hole. A good urethane-based fabric repair material is Seam Grip.
Be aware that urethane-based repair material will not work on silicone fabrics (either fabric with silicone used in it's manufacture (like Sil-Nylon), or silicone-treated fabric), and you'll need to find a product that will repair silicone fabric. Before applying urethane-based repair, use alcohol (isopropyl) to clean around hole inside and outside. Then, apply urethane-based material to both inside and outside of tear. Don't touch fabric don't close roof for 10-hours. Don't treat if rain is expected within 10 hours. Again, this will only repair that specific hole. Another hole can happen an inch away at any time. So seek out the better (read: more permanent) solution I outlined above.
