I have a 2003 Silverado D-Max that I'm installing new batteries in. I can find nothing in the owners manual which describes what sequence the two batteries should be installed in. I know my trailer which has 4 batteries has a specific sequence to follow. Can anyone offer advice on my trucks batteries ?

thanks,
Bill

BeeTee, when I had a PU that had 2 batteries (and a snowplow), I had them tagged together. One was on each fender well. The secondary being on the side opposite of the starter. I used long battery cables tying the positives together and the negatives together. Negative lead then goes to the ground. The positives being together to to the point of the original 1 battery. This way you are hooked in parallel- 12 volt and more amperage and reserve cranking power. Hopes this helps and is not off the subject you were trying to ask. Happy Camping and Good Luck. The above is if your starter runs on 12 volt. If you have a 24 volt starter then it has to go through a series/parallel switch and ty try to explain that, I am lost. Sorry

I do not believe there is any sequence to hook up on a diesel. At least not that I have heard of. You might want to ask at dieselstop.com

The Duramax comes preconfigured with all of the wiring and connections already in place. Simply follow the same procedure you would with any single battery hook-up positive lead first ground last and you're good to go. Do not leave any major amp draw options you may have installed in the on position though as you don't want any arcing when you get that ground cable close to the battery. ECU's control a lot of their functions through the ground side and a spike caused by a major arc can fry that gound side of your Engine Control Module.

If it were me and I were replacing both at once I would do the one closest to the starter (driver's side) and leave the one that powers all of the electonics for last.

Thanks to all. I'm off to hook them up, positive lead, then negative, driver side first.
