What kind of mileage are you getting towing with the new 6.4?

I get 11-13 running around town with no 5'er. I get 6-7 with the trailer on the highway.

BUT, I have the heavy tow package with the 4.88 rear end so that is what does me the most harm.

Those trucks should come with a double overdrive gear as a factory option, or a 2-speed rear axle.

I was reading elsewhere a few months ago the 6.4l Ford Diesel has a maintenance schedule for the exhaust system. Ford recommends replacing the entire exhaust system at 120,000 miles to the cost of $4,000.

I agree. I have looked at a Gear Vendor overdrive, but I just don't know if I want to make the investment being I don't really drive the beast if I am not towing.

It is the DPF that will eventually need to be replaced, but they have already come up with a way to clean them.

BTW: It is not $4k either. It is like $1200.

I have a 2008 F-450 4WD with the HD tow package (4:88 gears) also. My truck is a Job #1 build and it has approximately 11,000 miles on it now. When I used to use it as my daily driver, if I stayed right around 55 mph I was able to get just under 13 mpg by hand calculation, not the lie-0-meter. We recently purchased rig in my signature and so far I figure it is getting around 7 mpg towing the TH. One thing I am going to try, is replacing the front air dam under the front bumper. According to some of the diesel forums, if Job #1 owners switch to a Job #2 air dam (which is significantly longer) it is supposed to smooth out the airflow under the truck and some have seen improvements as much as 0.5 to a little over 1 mpg. Well worth the $100 or so dollars that it costs if that is true. I will be ordering mine this week. Hope this helps.

Not the whole just one particular part. Cannot spit the name of the part out right now. Just went to 6.4 class last week. Its not that big of a part but it is about 1200.00 and a real pain to install. Ill get the name of the part tommorow. I'll try anyway.
