Even though it was a quality wine, some keys on our Toshiba laptop no longer want to work, and we've given them ample time to "dry" out.
The good news -- CD drive, hard drive, mouse, software, and all work fine.
The bad news -- new keyboard?
Or is there a way to clean beneath the keys? Do keys snap out somehow to access the space below?
Appreciate some advice. This is not something covered in the user manual.

If you had been able to do it right away, a quick water rinse (with the unit off and unplugged, of course) might have worked. I once had a co-worker knock a Coke bottle onto his keyboard and a quick shower in the sink fixed his. At this point, with the dryed sticky residue, the keyboard would have to be removed and cleaned internally. Call a computer shop and get an estimate for cleaning or replacing.

I have seen many drunk laptops in my years as a tech. LOL!
There is usually a fairly easy way to remove the keyboard from the unit. (You may have to carefully pry off some access panels around the KB.)
Then using DISTILLED water. You can give the keyboard a bath. Shake it out REALLY well when you are done and give it a couple of days to dry out. (Lay it key side down for the first 24 hours, then pick it up and give it a good shake again. The give it another 24 hours propped against something so it is standing up.)
Should fix you up. Done it many times. Remember, it has to be distilled water or you could leave a sediment in there that will really muck it up.
Your mileage may vary.

Replaced keyboard on my Compaq with a purchase off EBAY. Price was less than $30 with shipping.

Thanks, folks. The DW will be happy to know this. She was worried she'd ruined our computer after we had just restored the system due to a sneaky trojan. Computers: Can't live with 'em, can't live without 'em.

Of course it is destroyed, you will have to replace it with a new one with more memory, hard drive, and speed. From her money naturatully. Stop reading to her at this point. Then. Just turn it upside down and wash it with the sprayer from the kitchen sink. let itdry and it should work.

I would agree with the previous post on getting parts off Ebay. The keyboard is probably $10 or so. I replaced the screen and a hard drive. When the hard drive started failing the second time I sold the whole thing which really didnt work at all for $50. The only value in it was the battery and the screen. If your laptop is more than 6 years old and gets a lot of use it might be time to replace.

We've taken ours apart a few times because the power outlet is poorly designed and needs to be re-soldiered periodically. It's not hard but you need a guide. This is one great. http://www.irisvista.com/tech/
