We're going there this Summer, and staying at ABC Campground, going to Silver Dollar City (the MOST AWESOME PARK), doing the Branson Belle Dinner Cruise, and maybe a couple of shows.....

Quote: 1. Which shows should we go see? We don't like the Vegas shows...but do enjoy great talent (singing and laughing).
2. What else should we see in the area. It is a very long trip for us and I don't know when we will be back this way.
3. What food is Missouri known for? Where can we get a good meal that speaks of the local people of Missouri?
I would suggest you wait until you arrive to decide on the shows. The shows are too numerous to mention and you will find they are all family friendly, and discounted.
I think you would all enjoy Silver Dollar City, and by the time you do the cave, the park, and the rides, your day will be full. The one drawback is the cost, but its not that bad and if you come in late one day the ticket is good all the next, you'll have to check on the exact time.. Thee Butterfly Palace is unique and popular. The Shepard Of the Hills Fish Hatchery at the Table Rock dam is interesting and free. The afternoon Branson Belle cruise is unique and different.
Food, well I suppose that Missouri is not that unique when it comes to food. It leans southern and BBQ is probably the biggest attraction. You'll find Missouri BBQ is based on a sweet/spicy tomato based sauce on a rub dominated by chili powder and brown sugar.
In Branson, the Farmhouse Cafe, in old downtown, offers food found in virtually every rural Missouri cafe. Danna's BBQ on hiway 165 has good BBQ in a relaxed atmosphere.

I second what BroncoRVer recommends.
Also a `must see' is the Shogi Kabachi (sp?) show. You may be skeptical about seeing a Japanese fiddle player but he packs the theatre for every performance and people take their cameras INTO THE BATHROOMS to take pictures of the facilities; they are that fabulous.

The restaurant is called Lambert's! Check their hours though - I think they're not open on Sundays? Or Mondays? I can't remember. Sometimes, we've driven down there on a drive, expected it to be open, and found it was not!

We are going to Branson this Friday for Memorial weekend. We are staying at Cooper's Creek. Last year we stayed at Compton's close to Silver Dollar City and our son really enjoyed the pool.
You have to take the family to Silver Dollar City. They are having their BBQ and Bluegrass Fest. WE ate the BBQ last year and it was delicious. The girls and grandparets will love SDC. It is definitly not Vegas. If you go after three you get the next day free. Go in late and stay for the show in Echo Hollow then do the next day.
Some of our favorite things are riding the Ducks, the Branson Belle, IMAX, and shows. One of our favorite shows is at the Grand Country Mall. It isn't very big or as expensive as some of the other shows but you won't be disappointed. We also enjoyed going to the newly developed Branson Landing for shopping and water light shows. We always find something new to do every time we go. Hope you enjoy your trip!

If you are going through Springfield you need to stop at the original Bass Pro Shops store. There is a good restaurant there called Hemingways. In Branson go to Dolly Parton's Dixie Stampede for the dinner and show. The show Country Tonight is also good. So is Yakov Smirnov (sp?). Good Luck Have Fun!!!!
