We go to Branson twice a year and enjoy it a lot. Learn the alternate traffic routes to minimize your time on Hwy 76. If I was looking for show that would appeal to three generations, I'd recommend the Branson Belle Dinner Cruise, The Haygoods and The Duttons. I would also recommend the Hard Luck Diner for breakfast, lunch or an ice cream treat.
We are staying in Kimberling City towards the end of June. We always go to Silver Dollar City. We buy season passes and spend about 3 days there.
Also, check out Dogwood Canyon. It's owned by Johnny Morris the owner of Bass Pro. It's not that far and it's a great place to spend the day riding horses, bikes, fishing, etc....
We don't really do a lot of the shows but we do enjoy the go carts along the strip. The Branson Belle is a nice dinner cruise and the Pirate ship ride is fun for younger kids. You can go see Shepard of the hills and have dinner also.
I would second The Shepard of the Hills play. I've seen it every time I've gone to Branson and enjoyed it. Unless it's changed a lot since I've been there last(and that's a possiblity since The last time was 1994. We did stop at Lambert's to eat last year though and had to wait two hours to get in!! This was at 2:00 in the afternoon on a weekday. The food is good, but I'll won't stop there again. No food is good enough to wait 2 hours in line for.

Hi Charlie,
We are contemplating making that trip, leaving Independence,LA on Sunday, June 29 and taking 10 days or so. DW and I decided we can see and do more in 10 days than going out west then thru Dakota's. Fuel savings alone we can darn near take another vacation later on. What campgrounds are good in Branson? 1st and last time we went there my youngest was 3 months old--she will be 19 on the 24th. Thanks ...Steve A. Dagro
We will be going in the middle of June for 2 weeks.
We are staying at Waters edge campground It's located on Table Rock lake in Kimberling City which is about 14 miles from Branson.
According to Map Quest, it should take a little over 10 hours to get there.
While there we are going to visit Silver Dollar City for a couple of days, we are planning on going to Dogwood Canyon for a day, it's beautiful scenery and a really nice day trip.
Another day we are going to rent a party barge and spend the day on Table Rock Lake.
After that we are heading over to Cotter Arkansas for a week of relaxation at White River Camp Ground and do a little trout fishing. It's a older park than Denton Ferry but we've been there several times and we like it. The owner is really fixing it up and making improvements. It's shady and quiet.
PM me if you want more info.
BTW, on edit:
Total milage pulling the 5er there and back is 1162 miles. Figuring fuel @ $5.00/gal. and if I average the following in milage, I figured how much it'll cost us:
All previous recommendations are good. Let me add the Magnificent Seven, a dinner show and very good. Also, the Sight and Sound Theater is opening this week and featuring the show "Noah". I have heard it is a great show and I already have tickets in Oct.

Should I stay right in the middle of town just to make it convenient to go to the 1 or 2 shows we will go to OR stay on the outskirts and drive or take a shuttle to the shows? Thinking about the later in case I want to venture away from town I won't have to get thru all this traffic I've been hearing about. The traffic was ridiculous 19 yrs ago when we were there. If we decide to go to Silver Dollar City,Sheppard of the Hills and Eureka Springs would it be better to be on the outskirt like Waters Edge or such. Thanks in advance for your replies.............Steve A. Dagro
Look at Indian Point, it's the same point that SDC is on. There are nice CG's on the outskirts of Branson. I personally prefer to stay away from the rat race. The traffic on the strip is a nightmare. I'm turning off before Branson and taking the back way to Kimberling City. There is NO WAY that I'd pull my 5er down the strip.
We chose Kimberling City because we wanted the Lake, quiet and out of the way. We've never stayed there and wanted to try it. I'll drive a few miles to see the attractions we decide to go to.

Thanks,
I'm hoping to average 11.5 - 12 MPG. After Pine Bluff we start hitting some hills. After Conway we hit some bigger hills and the milage really drops to around 9 or 10.
I just upgraded my exhaust to a 4" and installed a new intake system. Running empty, I increased ~2 MPG. We have not taken a long trip towing yet so I'm hoping to get those averages. Last year on a trip to Arkansas, we averaged ~11 MPG on the total trip.
