Atwoods use a plastic plug, and should NOT have an anode used.
If you have an ammeter, you can put it in series with charged battery to see what draws current.
Switches that supposedly turn stuff off by orientation sometimes do not work. We have a car where the bulb in the trunk lites is taken out, as sometimes switch left lite on and ran down battery.

i do have a atwood hot water heater? He Ruide what switch do you mean? the only switch i have seen in my trailer is the pump for the fresh water tank and the shut off for the lights that is on the side of the trailer when you close the roof to insure that the lights are all off. i am getting a little confused. sorry.

Derek, I stand corrected. I knew that there were sacrificial anodes that are being sold for Atwood water heaters but it turns out that Atwood does not recommend using them because their tanks are made from aluminum. Hence I agree an anode is not needed. However, from what I've read the plastic plugs can sometime be difficult to screw in/out and some folks have replaced it with a brass plug.
I see you have PM me so I'll address the other question that way.

Fleetwood Evolution E3 - Yellow (DW let me get a Yellow one since she wanted an E3 with a slide out )
Hummer H2 - Black (DW vetoed the Yellow one, but I got two Yellow Hummer Folding Mountain bikes )
We have the 2007 Jayco 1207.
It does not have the electric option for the water heater... only gas.
Put the plug in (play with it till you get it.. a pain, but doable) and open all your valves so water runs theough all the hoses.
Fill up the pup with water.
After its full, open the hot water valve on your sink, and turn on the water pump. This will pump water from the water tank up into the water heater. Once its full water will start coming out of the faucet at the sink.
That trick just moved 6 gallons from the 17 gallon water tank, so to carry a full load of water, you will need to then put 6 more gallons back into the main tank. There.. now your full - 6 gallons in the water heat and 17 in the water tank = 23 gallons total.
Now, you can turn on the water heater. Sometimes it takes a few trys and a few minutes to get the pilot light going as its the farthest point from the propane tank.
Once you have the pilot light on, slide the little temp tab to how ever hot you want the water temp maintained..... we shoot for around hakf way... maybe abit on the hot side of half way.
Once the water heater stops making the Blast Furnace sound, you have hot water!
It will turn itself on and off to maintain whatever temp you set it for....
The battery: It could be dead. Get it tested. Try charging it for a couple days...Remember the batteries sold with popups are uaually the el cheapo marine batteries. If its worth driving back to get it replaced, go for it. Otherwise rather then spend $100 in gas to replace a $60 battery, i'd just goto WallyWorld and get another one... and infact replacing it with a true Deep Cycle battery would be better.

First - - - read what Walt said. Water heaters run on propane. Second, the hole in the water heater is USUALLY a brass plug with an attached anode. Call your dealer and confirm this.
Electricity - make sure the switch that cuts off power to the 12 volt power is ok. My PUP had a cutoff switch on the swing-up kitchen unit. Nothing would run until that somewhat hidden switch was activated. Also - slap a voltmeter on your battery - make sure it is really bad or down.
If battery won't charge - I assume you have an active charge line on your 7-pin plug - be sure you have it chacked and replace it with a TRUE deep-cycle battery. Checker has good battery under the Exide name - there are others
the battery that is in the trailer is a interstate. i found a blown fuse. all ok now, the water heater i will tackle on thursday. thanks again everyone.
