Found this one at a online supplier for $53. I've applied for my coupons, let us know how this one works out please...looks great for my B- (my name for my DIY project) to me.

The map shows the states my wife and I have driven (or camped) in together.

Is the government handout good for a new tv with the HD tuner installed?

We didn't like the setup with a separate dvd unit in our leisure travel. (read hated) So we found a 19 inch digital tv with a slot in the side for the dvd at Best Buy. We got a very reasonable price on sale and solved two problems. More space where the dvd was and a digital high def. tv.

The problem with my GWV is it has no electrical plug in the back area to hook up a converter. I even called GWV to ask what they suggested and to see what kind of 12V tv's they were using that were digital. They had no suggestions and said they went to a 19" regular tv (no 12v). They said i should pay an electrician to hook up an electrical plug in the back or get an inverter installed.

I found one 12v digital on-line and ordered it - something that I can change out easily in my B but its currently on backorder.

I ordered my two coupons online on 3/14 and the coupons arrived in the mail today-5/23. So now I am going to search for a DTV converter box.

What is the advantage of having a converter that has 'analog passthru' that some have discussed on this forum?

What is the advantage of having a DTV converter box that works on 12V? I only watch TV when parked and plugged into shore power or using the 12V/120V inverter/converter active so that I can power my laptop for email and internet. In fact I travel down the road with the 12V/120V inverter/converter active so that I can power my laptop with the Delorme GPS software running? Why would a 12V DTV converter box be needed?

The only advantage of analog pass through is some small stations don't have to convert to digital in 2009, so you will need an analog signal to view them.

I guess some people need a 12 volt converter because they don't have an inverter, or an outlet to plug one into.

I'm planning on getting the coupons, but when I saw that they were only good for 90 days I thought I'd wait for the end of summer into fall and see if the price on the converter boxes comes down at all.
Good idea or Bad?
Thanks to the person who posted the wike page with the comparisons of the models. I did not realize that there were so many models available.
These are interesting times.

The govt. has allocated a certain amount of $ for the coupons, when the money is gone no more coupons. Now I have no idea if, or when they will run out, but I didn't want to take the chance.
