Camper world has the parts in stock. Call them for an appointment. They are on the list to do the work. My dealer still has not got back to me after I inquired last week. And they did not know about a new recall. Dometic is dragging there feet on info to the dealers.

Like the rest, I got no notification either. Found out after the refer spilled it's guts and I went surfing on the net to look for answers. Called Dometic. They told me that they could not help as the recall only covers the shield to prevent a fire..............................Cost me $1600.00 to replace the refer.....

I appreciate this thred. I didn't know that Dometic had expanded it's recall and now have found out that the refer in my '07 is affected!
I just got rid of my '03 Coachmen with the same issue and now need to deal with the same thing in the new TT.
It would have been nice to know, Dometic, since I never have received a notice in the mail (I know you have my address because I purchased an extended warranty for this refer) and also because we exclusively boondock and run the refer on propane. I store the RV at work and always have the refer operating on electric there.
My concern is the web-sites statement that you shouldn't operate the refer while sleeping. Well I haven't had it off in nearly two years and we camp with a severely disabled, immobile daughter. A fire for us would be devistating.
I even used to be an authorized repair person for Dometic many years ago but I have no trust or confidence in the Dometic products anymore.

I guess I will seriously consider installing a new Norcold.

Sounds like they (Dometic) basiclly admit to a poor quality boiler design that IS going to rupture - maybe sooner than later - and has the potential to cause a fire. I can't see the purpose of the sheild being that the entire back and sides of the regrig enclosure all the way up to the roof top vent is luan board and plastic. Seems the sheild will just contain the fire INSIDE the refrig access area as oppossed to the fire shooting out of the access panel!!!

Come on Dometic!!! You people have been in the rv refrig business for years and with a decent reputation. Protect your reputation and the consumer and step up to the plate. Offer to replace the boiler tubes with a new design OR at least extend the warranty for a longer period of time to protect customers finanacilly from what could be a very costly repair down the road. I think all of us should contact them. Voices are heard in numbers. PCM

Yeah. Contact them?
When I looked on their web-site for an authorized service center to do the recall, the very first three on the list refused to do the recall for one reason or another.
I immediatly shot off an e-mail to Dometic suggesting that they remove there three morons from their authorized service list. I received an automated reply but never a personal response.
Ironic they now sell toilets!!

I thought the best source of info for the recall is right here on RV.net, under Tech Issues.

One of the posters there is a RV tech who has done quite a bit of research into the issue and the cause of the problem. He also posted pictures of a faulty fridge and the fix. It is very informative.

My interpretation of everything I read was:
1. If you smell ammonia OR have any yellow goo inside your fridge vent/compartment, DO NOT use your fridge. End stop period.
2. If you have no smells and no yellow goo, then it may be safer to use your fridge on gas than on electric (contrary to what Dometic indicates).
3. The recall doesn't fix the problem (element getting too hot) but instead puts in some flashing to hopefully prevent your whole RV from burning down when the element gets too hot and cracks the tube.

After reading all and studying the pictures, we checked our fridge for smells and goo. All was fine. Then we ran the fridge on electric and it stayed at a temp that was comfy to put your hand on and hold it there. Then we ran it on propane. Again, temp was fine and not overly warm. Then we made an appointment for the recall kit to be installed. And we bought a new element to replace the old element. That seemed to be the best we could do, other than replace the fridge. But there also seemed to be no guarantee that a new fridge wouldn't have the same problem.

I found out about this recall from just browsing the tech issues while board at work. Haven't received notification yet either and when calling around seems many service shops here in town have lots of the refit kits and appointments were the only problem. Found one close by that an opening first thing in the morning, although they had not been notified of the expanded recall I had to wait 1/2 hour for them to receive a fax from Dometic, then another hour for the refit and I was on my way. Not the best way to run a recall....
