Drunk,
If your coming to the Fork stop in and have a cold one with me, I'll be in the 19' Trail Cruiser with a black dodge 1500 TV. Hope everyone has a great holiday.

That was what I was thinking, but Mapquest says over Monarch is Total Estimated Time: 3.0 hours 48 minutes Total Estimated Distance: 212.23 miles, whereas through Saguache it says Total Estimated Time: 4.0 hours 8 minutesTotal Estimated Distance: 229.09 miles. At dusk, that extra 20 minutes may be very valuable.
Google Earth shows that Dome Lakes looks pretty treeless, but McDonough Reservoir appears to be in more forested terrain, so we will likely go there. 4runnerguy, I will report back on what I think of this area. The NF guy said it was less popular, mainly frequented by locals, not Front Range types, so we will see. Hope the fishing is good.

But I did swing by a few of the sites after dark, was very cool with the almost full moon, and they are looking good, no snow what so ever and the trees and grass are nice and green. It's a nice back up plan if your other places fall through. We'll be heading out Friday night to camp, so if you see a black jacked up F150 and a Travel Star, stop in and say Hi.
Thanks for all of your quality scouting and reports, Thumper. We did drive up 149 and around Big Blue to the south last year, and will maybe check out that area on another trip. I really appreciate all of your good input.
So this is what I find leaving the office headed home to hook up the trailer. Nothing like haveing some snow falling on May 22nd to make hooking up the trailer a joy. I'm sure it will still be a great weekend, what camping trip isn't great? Just thought I'd throw in this last snow level report before heading out.

And to think I was upset that I needed to put on a long sleeve shirt last night That's a heck of a way to start a Memorial Day camping trip.....

Besides the crowds, this is another reason we skip camping on Memorial Day weekend.
Last year on June 10th I went up 2 days before my wife and her sister came up for the weekend. It snowed the night before they came up and I took pictures of 3" of snow over everything because I knew it would be gone before they drove in that night. The weekend was beautiful, then it snowed again Monday. If anyone wants a sure thing with the weather in Colorado you can try Aug.

Weather reports for the high country, basically from Leadville down the divide to the San Juans, is calling for snow this weekend. Our weather man says 3-6 inches. It will be interesting to see exactly how much really falls.

Well, I just hope we don't get hit with a tornado on our camping trip this weekend. Windsor was hit hard yesterday....they really had terrible damage..it was horrible! We (in Ft. Collins) were praying that the tornado would not come our way but all we got was heavy rains....thank goodness!
Today it is sunny and cool...so we will keep our fingers crossed for a simi nice weekend, even though we know it will rain off and on.
Hope those in the high country stay warm with that snow this weekend. We are heading out in a couple of hours to Mountain Park CG/Roosevelt Nat'l. Forest. Can't wait to gooooooooooooooooooooooooo.
