By the weekend we hope to be back IN our house! Camping in the driveway starting yesterday while the cabinets, woodwork, doors, etc. get painted< White woodwork throughout means oil based enamel and it takes forever to dry--especially with the humid, wet weather that just started, Two rooms got painted last week--part of the kitchen yesterday and most of the prep work done on the rest. Our house has been torn up since May! Hope those of you on the road for the weekend have a safe and fun trip. I didn't realize it was the holiday coming up!

Westport with 15 other rigs from our GoodSam group. With three grandkids and parents spending three weeks with us we need the break already. However mommy has informed me we are taking two of the girls with us. Maybe "DOG the people eater" will get the 3 year old under control while we are gone. Grandsons name for DOG not mine.
Labor Day weekend we will leave to Kevin, Ryan and all the others that still work for a living. We can clog up the campgrounds the rest of the year but holidays belong to the working.
We talked at the last rally of doing an SOS breakfast for some of us that miss the old standby breakfast from our military days. I think maybe we should work on that for the next rally? Maybe on Friday morning?????? We are doing bisquits and gravy for 34 this weekend but its not the same as good ole red SOS.
Kevin, sorry about the rain, it seems to go with vacations. We drag it with us from the Northwest no matter where we go.

Here I sat with no breakfast yet and Bob is talking about SOS. Sure sounds good to me. But, Is there anyone in this group know how to make the real stuff.
White or red is OK with me. In the USAF I got white, when they sent me to pier 91 Navy had RED, think I liked the red better, but white will do.
Is any one thinking about going over to Lake Chelan after Labor Day. I like to go over after the holiday. September is a good time.

I think this will be the first holiday we won't be away.
Bob, I have SOS recipes for both creamed chipped beef and the "red" version with hamburger and tomato. I dry my own beef. I buy thin sliced roast beef and put it in a convection oven on real low temp with drying racks. I also think the the red version recipe I have is exactly what my Uncle Sammy served me. I'm open to doing this with some help. We could also do a sausage gravy and biscuit thing. I do a mean sausage gravy but I am not a very good baker of biscuits. The SOS of course should be on toast.

Mother used to make creamed dried beef for dinner sometimes and used the Hormel chipped beef out of the glass jar.She did that several different ways;with chopped hard boiled eggs, with peas, both or just plain and ALWAYS on toast. She also did SOS,but used country gravy like for fried chicken and mashed potatoes N.C. style. Now it was my dad that would make the biscuits and gravy, well both of them as my mother's discuits were more awesome than his,and he used regular ground pork sausage and his own spices, didn't pass it on before he died tho,and we could eat that forever..It never ceases to amaze me that we could eat anything we wanted to when we were kids in the 50's and 60's and never gain a pound and today everything the kids eat goes on as pounds..Oh and we didn't have allergies, etc either.

Bigdog, Back in the 50s and 60s we ate more protein and fat and less (percentage-wise) carbohydrates.
I've also heard that some of the allergy issues relate to our extreme concern with cleanliness. Out immune systems don't get enough exposure to real bugs, so they start finding things to fight. Not suggesting that we should ignore hygiene, just that we shouldn't panic quite to the extent that's become common.
I agree with the protein and fat..Everything fried was fried in lard or Crisco,I just can't imagine southern fried chicken fried in peanut or olive oil, yuck .. and awhile ago,my sil had a fit when she found the cube of lard in the refer that Jeanne uses in her pie crusts..It's interesting that 1.3 billion chinese people use peanut oil every day and they aren't allergic, but in the USA probably 1/2 of the kids are..
Hmm, a "SOS" breakfast. I'm not sure what that is, but if it has something to do with the military, I'm sure I don't want to know.
Yeah, we're going camping Labor Day weekend for the first time ever! We usually don't like being with the crowds or in traffic, but it's about the only way our son and his family can go with us.
