Its not like they can just punch a hole in the ground, and within a year, our fuel will plummet to $2 a gallon again. This also goes for solar, nucular, wind, tidal, hydrogen, ETC. Its a nice pipe dream...but I think we are paying what the market will bear, and will continue to do so. Even if fuel hits $7 a gallon, people will still gripe, but the American people will continue to pay the piper.
I honestly do not think there is anything the American public can do. It is a world market....and me and Joe Blow Whoever, can't do anything about it.
Just my opinion
So we just don't do anything? We've been arguing over drilling for this for years. If we had done the drilling 10 years ago it be making a difference now.
One thing everyone forgets about wind and solar is that they are extremely wasteful of resources and require redundant supplies of electricity generated by other means.
Consider this scenario. I build 10,000 new homes and need power for them. So my bright idea is to put of wind turbines. problem is, when the wind stops, I need enough capacity from the grid to power those 10,000 homes. Its not just sitting out there unused, you can't store electricity on the grid. there must be a power plant online for times when the wind doesn't blow, or if solar is your thing, when the sun doesn't shine.
So basically, for every megawatt of alternative energy capacity built there must also be a megawatt of conventional capacity built.
