So took the plunge, picked up a honda 3000.
I'm thinking that the best solution would be to attach the genset to the box of my pickup so it doesn't walk away on its own and I would prefer to not take it in and out of the box of my pickup.
I would like to be able to hook the 5er to the genset when its still in the box of my pickup but the current shore line on the 5er is a bit short unless I get my pickup next to the 5er which isn't always going to be possible.
Are others running the genset out of the box of the pickup? If so do you just use a shoreline extension? Or have you done something different?
Any info much appreciated

Extension is simple. Just need a heavy duty extension cord. I got one from Walmart years ago. Not sure if it had 12 or 10ga wire, but, it was rated for 20A I think it was 25ft.

PS that one will handle most of your needs.
To handle full 3kw need to make your own.

I would recomment the extension. Get a #10 cable. Whole lot easier on the back.

Wally World has a RV extension cord #10 wire 30' long for I think it was abt. $35.00 dollars. I always carry one because at some CGs the power pedestal is just a little too far.

Hi,
I have the set up you are looking for in my truck now. I sent you a private message giving some explanation. It's easy to do and the gen set is covered and secure.

My main breaker panel is in the front of my 5er, so I tapped in to the main wire with 10-3 wire and ran it back through the front to the pin box. I keep it pluged in to the gen while we are dry camping, but have to unplug it and put on the safety plug cover while pluged in to shore power.

we rented a 3000 genset for about 15 minutes and hooked it up to the 5th wheel and it ran the AC but nothing else
I don't recall if its a 13.5 or a 15 ac unit, I'm thinking its a 15 but I'd have to look when I get back home.
