Not looking forward to the cost of travel. Have to go to CA and WY in a couple of months and the 7600 miles I figure will cost about $2300.00! This figure is
based on $6.00 diesel and the fact I get 20MPG.

PS: Buddy is in Kuwait - fuel is 85 cents! Maybe we should drill our own oil!!!

Oil was $127 on Monday, $129 yesterday and today it has risen to an incredible $132/barrel. This WAS just an inconvenience to comaplin about - but this is getting downright scary folks!! This goes way past not being able to travel - this could bring down our whole way of life - maybe even the country itself. I'm getting seriously worried!

From the AP wire a few minutes ago"

"NEW YORK - Oil prices bolted to a new record above $132 a barrel Wednesday after the government reported that supplies of crude oil and gasoline fell unexpectedly last week. And crude's rise in the futures market again pressured consumers by pulling prices at the pump higher — a gallon of regular gas rose overnight to a new record above $3.80 a gallon.

In its weekly inventory report, the Energy Department's Energy Information Administration said crude oil inventories fell by more than 5 million barrels. Analysts had expected a modest increase. Gasoline inventories also fell and took the market by surprise.

Light, sweet crude for July delivery was up more about $3, rising as high as $132.08 a barrel in late morning trading on the New York Mercantile Exchange.

At the pump, the average national price of a gallon of regular gas rose 0.7 cent overnight to a record $3.807 a gallon, according to a survey of stations by AAA and the Oil Price Information Service. Prices are 60 cents higher than a year ago, and many forecasters believe they'll hit $4 on a national basis at some point over the next month. Prices are already that high in many parts of the country, and the number of stations charging $4 or more rises each day.

Diesel fuel rose 1.9 cents to its own record price of $4.558 a gallon Wednesday. Rising prices of diesel, used to transport most consumer and industrial goods, are sending prices of food and many other goods higher."

We will be cutting back like most of the people. Going to Destin FL next week, but I booked in December before the gas prices went out the roof. Don't think I will book for next year though. Will travel closer to home.

Regular at Chevron in Morgan Hill Ca. Today is 405.9, 415.9 for 89 and 425.9 for 91.
The Dolphin uses 87, the Jeep 87 and the X3 is supposed to use 91 but is now on a diet of 87. For the first time since fulltiming I am "happy" to have a gas driven RV. We get 8 mpg overall in the Dolphin, 20 mpg in the Wrangler and 24 in the BMW X3. Diesel is beyond nuts in price.

I find it amusing to note that with each jump in fuel prices, the "I will go at any cost" group becomes a little less vocal.

Seems like reality is finally setting in that if this situation does not soon reverse itself, the lifestyle and standards of living that we have grown to consider our right is rapidly headed for the history books.

From the travels that we take, I see no reduction in traffic. People are out doing what ever they want and when they want to do it. I do think people will cut back in other areas to make up the difference in fuel prices. The economy hasn't effected us yet, because of our business, but we have made a few adjustment in our spending habits as of late. I've dropped a few memberships, not using as many of some of the services we used to use in our business and trying to consolidate some of our leisure / chore list travels in to one trip instead of many. It all helps to go to the bottom line.

Not surprising at all. People get used to the price increases, and are just paying it. Not complaining and hand-wringing about it here, is my take on it.

I have a sweet tender nature, however I enjoy sharing my thoughts and opinions.
