Yep your friends got the shaft. I'm on my 3rd Jayco. The 1st two I bought used. The new one (maiden voyage this weekend) I bought from Dixie RV in Newport News, VA. Even though I knew what I was doing they insisted they show me everything in the new RV. They were very kind and wanted to make sure I was happy. My truck sat a bit lower with the 28BHS then it did with the 19H so they even offered to flip the ball on my hitch. I'd buy from them again.

I agree, they should have been more assertive. I would not have left the dealer until I was sure about how to do EVERYTHING.
It still does not excuse the poor dealer. My dealer (Ricks RV, Joliet IL) spent about an hour and a half, and let us video. With my second TT, they did the same even though I just traded in my '07 for an '08. The PDI guy kept asking "do you have any questions" as he explained everything.
I would let the owner of the dealership AND Jayco know how dissatisfied you are in the delivery.
PS...enjoy your Jayco, it is a great product...just find a new dealer!

Don't these rigs come with a printed manual? I'd prefer that to anything I heard from a dealer, especially from a salesburger.

Very good point. And to ensure it happens, go over everything first, including a thorough PDI with the dealer BEFORE the "closing" or giving them their check. The one who holds the money holds the power.

Jayco has a delivery check-list that should have been gone over in detail. My dealer just wears me out when picking up a new rig. Matter of fact, I tried to cut him short last time I picked one up and he insisted he show me everything anyway. At the end of the PDI I signed the Jayco paperwork and left. It takes two to three hours to do this properly.

I would call the dealer back and ask them to do it properly and or contact Jayco and see if they can help get a proper PDI for them. It is important that they know how to use their new RV as well as proper maintenance items that affect their warranty.

Good Luck!

Jeff

Thanks so much for all your replies, we are all on the same page here. I am going to print these replies for them to read. Our family has enjoyed camping for many years and have taken delivery of new and used rvs starting with a pop-up and now a mh. All the great memories all started from the excitement of picking up the new camper.

We bought our 1999 Jayco 314BHS in the fall and took delivery of it a few weeks ago. I found the dealer was very courteous. They went through everything with me including all the systems outdoors(even though it was half snow/half rain the day I picked it up) I got enough manuals with the camper to practically rebuild the thing if needed.

Good dealers give good service from the beginning.

We were not new to camping but our first TT had a few more buttons and whistles. The owner of the dealership set up a date and time for the PDI. He spent over two hours with me going over everything while I took notes. He operated the awning and then had me open and close the awning. Hitch up and unhitch, prepping the tanks, etc., etc.

When we traded it in for a new TT at the same dealership. He went over the new TT. It took less time but he did go over the new items. They even refused to take our trade-in until the day we picked up our new camper. He pulled the new camper door to door with the trade-in so we could transfer all our personal items from one TT to the new one. We left out the next morning on the maiden voyage with the new TT.

Some dealers must not realize or don't care how much they can affect someone's first RV experience. Like someone already suggested I would write a letter to the manufacturer and carbon copy the dealership as to my displeasure.

We got our last TT, a Homestead Settler by Starcraft, from Tom Johnson Camping Center in Marion, NC. We had already owned a slide-in and a pop-up but the tech still took a good two hours to go over everything, even the outside stuff and it was raining (best time to pick up so you can check for leaks!). They installed our hitch while we went over the inside stuff and then showed us how to use it. All of this was done before we signed anything. Then they have a campground right next door that you can stay at for three nights for free. The service department was walking distance from where we spent our first trip in the new TT so any questions we forgot they were right there to help. I couldn't have asked for better service. Your friends need to let management at their dealer know how they were treated and if they don't get a much better response they should definitely look for another dealer.

So I trust you have helped them with all of their questions then. I would have them call Jayco also and let them know how disappointed they are.
