I opened my camper this year to find that the latch bracket on the right rear was very loose. After unsuccessfully trying to unscrew the the bolts, I managed to pull them through the rotten wood and aluminum skin. The damage is not that bad. If I can get the last one or two foot of bad wood out, I can probably replace it with new. The problem I have is with how the roof was assembled. The side board is actually screwed into the edge of the top panel and screwed in from the bottom. And how do I cut the board at a given length without cutting through the aluminum skin.

I figure if I get the old wood out and cannot get a new board fastened to the edge of the top paneling, I can buy some angle brackets to do the job. Has anyone else had to replaced the wood on their pop-up?

Sincerely,

Jay

I redid the roof in my pup last spring, it's not that hard it just takes alot of patience, first of all alot of people claim it's easier to do it when the roof is removed, with no help in the lifting dept I left mine on. Do a search on this board or google pop up message boards and you'll come up with ALOT of people that have done this before.

Here's a photo of before I started working on it

Now here's a photo after it was cleaned up

Here is a photo of the outside, looks pretty good for a camper that is 25 years old :-)

There used to be a picture "story" by someone on one of the pup sites that showed exactly how he did it. It's been a couple of years since I saw it though and I think it was on pop up explorer...
