Here are a couple photos of a recent white water rafting trip we took on the Nantahala River. Both of these photos were taken at the same location on the river, we just did this last part of the river twice.

I SO want to do this and everyone thinks I'm crazy! At my weight, maybe they're right (a bit over 200). But hey, you only live once, right? I think there are white water rafts trips that are more gentle than others...it's just finding them! Suggestions anyone? Thanks!

We have rafted the Nantahala several times. Looks like you may have had a guide. We always chose to do it by ourselves. Stoping along the way to have lunch. Were you there when they "turned" the river on? It's great to see the river bed fill up with water.

My mom took my sister and I white water rafting a few years back, up in Maine. I could not believe my mom was going along. It is a blast and something everyone should experience. Well, at least everyone who wants to. LOL! I was in my late 20's at the time. My mom? Well she was 29 years old the last time I asked. LOL!

That looks like so much fun! I'm 55 yrs old and dying to go. Do you sign up to go with a group, at these places? Would be no fun by myself.

If you are looking for a Whitewater Rafting Outfitter in West Virginia that can provide a wide range of rafting experiences for all ages and group sizes, try HERE. I have used this outfitter many times over the years and have never been disappointed.

My son and I have another 2-day whitewater trip scheduled with "River Expeditions" for this August, and they have RV hookup sites as well. If you are a first timer, sign up for the Upper New River (Class I to III) on the first day, then hit the Lower New River (Class III to V) on the following day. The New River Gorge is referred to as the Grand Canyon of the East.

This will get the blood flowing................,

My wife and I rafted the Kenebeck River in Maine about 10 years ago. We were not RVing at the time. We got a package with meals and cabin, and ride to the river. It was a great day never to be forgotten. Price was about $300 for the both of us at that time.

We have done 3 trips - the first was on the NEw River in WV many years ago - youngest was 6 at the time. The guide was not th ebest, but us into a rapid that then flipped us. It was a few moments of panic when we could not find our youngest - he was trapped under the flipped raft. But we all survived. Have also rafted the river near Glacier (name? the one where the movie with M Streep was filmed), much tamer, and then the Colorado near Moab - day long trip. They give lots of warnings, training, etc. but again found it to be not overly rough - just a coupl eof bumps then mostly flat water. As we drove through Color., we drove along the Arkansa River (?) and it looked to be alot of fun. Many rafters on the river.

We go to the Nantahala area for a week every summer. I have a scar on my lip from being thrown out of the raft on that section of the river.
