Greetings to everyone,
I am asking if anyone drives the new Ford F-450 and what are your assessments in terms of dependability. I have researched alot about this truck in terms of its fuel mileage and the fact that if there are any major engine problems, that the whole cab would have to be removed to work on it. I would appreciate it if anyone would be willing to share his/her evaluation, both good and bad. Thanks in advance!!!!

Will I can't tell you the long term reliability since I have only had mine for 6 weeks. The truck tows great night and day difference from my 2003 F350 DRW 4x4 6.0L. My milage towing was basically the same as my old truck (same driver, same trailer ....). This new truck make towing a 40 foot FW seem like a small boat. And the turning radius on the F450 4x4 is amazing.
As far as the cab off for major repairs, they newly designed cab can be removed in three hours as one unit (less bumper and headlights) none of the sheet metal is removed so there should be no allignment problems later. I have also be told that for more money the repairs can all be done with the cab on (ie. Class C's) but it takes alot longer.

I think 99% of my posts here on the forum are about how much I enjoy my 450. I hate the fuel mileage, but I bought it to tow and it does that without any thought. LOL!
The truck has had 2 issues. The first (and most major) issue I had was an EGR cooler line splitting. Left me "stranded" while vacationing in Ft. Myers, FL. Ford got me a rental and my 5'er was already at the campground, so it was not really a big deal.
The second issue it had was the cam angle sensor started to throw codes. It never actually failed. I was on vacation (in the home stretch of a 7000mile trip) in Augusta, GA. I stopped at Bobby Jones Ford and 2 hours later I was back as good as new and on my way home.
Other than that... NOTHING! Truck has been fantastic. Pulled my 16K lb trailer through the mountains of Colorado (7 and 8 percent grades.) And handled a 10% down grade in Wyoming with not so much as a grunt.
Fantastic truck.
The whole cab coming off thing... It is supposed to be designed to have 2 technicians remove it in 30 minutes. Plus, it would have to be some pretty major work, like engine replacement.

Oh yes, I second that, but it is the same for the 4X2 also. Same exact front suspension, sans the drive line. (But I still kick myself for not getting the 4X4.)

The best place to read about the new 6.4L diesel would be a Ford Diesel site like the dieselstop.com.
I haven't read of any major issues, just a few bugs (similar to GM and Dodge are having with their new diesels).

Mine tows great and has been dependable 11,000 miles on it. I pretty much just use it for towing. Yes the cab does have to come off for engine repairs. Handles like a smaller truck. I agree with the other poster you can get pros and cons on the dieselstop forum.

Does the cab have to come off if you get the V10?

If there is any major engine problems,
the cab having to be removed
would be the least problem...

The Ford diesel forums dedicated to the '08's, 6.4 PSDs are a slow read. Rather boring, not much to read about. Guess that is good news. I love my 450, hate the price of diesel. Coming to work this morning, I drove by the station I usually fill my truck up at, diesel had jumped $.10 overnight, now sitting at $4.59 a gallon, almost $2 more a gallon than when I took delivery of my truck year ago this month. I have 13,000 miles now, only reason the truck has been back to the shop, I noticed a bit of wetness on the ground under the radiator, yup, mine was defective, Ford gave me a loaner, had the truck back to me the next morning with new radiator installed, washed with a free oil and filter change. Best dang heavy duty pickup on the market.

Thanks everyone for your candid responses. I am seriously considering the F-450, and it is always good to obtain feedback on those who are actually using the product.
GODSPEED!!!
