Has anybody put a scope on the Champions or other cheaper models to see how much distortion/noise/jitter/Hz deviation there is in the output? I have with the Hondas but I don't have a Champion to test. FWIW, the Hondas are better than my house juice.

As a matter of fact, yes.
The Champion passed with flying colors...

Here's some scope pics a member took: Professor95's pics

Actually, there's enough info on the Champion to choke a horse over here: 3000W Chinese Gensets Info.

I always love reading generator threads. And, like this one, they all seem to turn into the Champion RV Gen vs Honda/Yamaha.

As I almost always boondock far away from other folks I don't really care what type of generator people get. But here are some observations that may or may not be helpful.

1. Open frame contractor gens are obnoxiuosly loud. They have no business at a campsite.
2. Honda and Yamaha (and Kipor) are loud when at full throttle. I don't like that.
3. Champion RV Gens are a bit louder than Honda and Yamaha at full throttle. I like that even less.
4. Honda and Yamaha get VERY quiet when on eco mode. So quiet that they can be run 24/7 and are barely noticable.
5. Champion Gens do not have eco mode and are always running full throttle. Therefore are always loud.

That's what people pay A LOT of money for; the Eco mode on a Honda or Yamaha. Is it worth it? That's up to the individual. For my family's camping style, yes it is. For many others it's not.

That about sums it up Vapor_Trails!
That said, im running (2) 6 volt deep cycles on my camper so i only need to fire up the gen once every 4 days for a few hours to recharge.
So unless im heading out for a trip that will last more then 4 days, i dont even bring the gen....

Hey what is wrong with YELLOW? My Kipor is not that much loader than the Honda.

My Kipor is just a hair louder than the honda, unless your talking about a couple 2000 watt honda's running in parallel, then the honda's are louder.

ya every gen posting can be summed up like this:

1.) Which generator should I buy?
2.) Someone mentions expensive gens
3.) Someone mentions cheaper gens
4.) Fight begins when expensive gen owners attack anything not expensive
5.) Thread gets closed

That about sum it up? hehe

Some people say that those of use who spend all that money for a quiet Honda or Yamaha generator are FOOLISH.

I guess they are kind of right. When some jerk pulls into the next campsite with one of those cheap, loud clatterboxes, it kind of negates all that money we spend on our generators to get some peace and quiet (and to show consideration to our neighbors).
