I just called DirecTV last night and had a receiver activated for the MH. When I got into the automated voice response system I kept saying "operator", it almost immediately switched me to a human. I did get passed twice to another person but the third knew all about RVs and how to handle them. They just added the receiver to our home account, noted that it is in the RV, and they will charge us only $4.99/mo. I thought I was going to have to get a separate account but they said no. They are sending me the paperwork to get DNS (distance network service, LA and NY channels). It could not have been easier. One trick is to get out of the automated system with "operator".

This site has some excellent threads on getting DTV for the RV.
Most of the representatives at DTV are clueless about the process.

We have DTV in our coach (KVH R5 in motion) and it has been pretty easy for us. The only problem we had was using it the first time after storage for several months and DTV had problems activating the receiver. It was an issue on their end but a very patient and knowledgeable customer service person stayed on the phone with me for 45 minutes while she tried to solve the problem. In the end, it was just a matter of waiting several hours for their internal maintenance cycle to pass so the activation code could be sent.

We piggyback our service onto the home too for $5 a month.

Activating a new receiver is no different for a motorhome than a house. All you do is call DTV, tell them you want service, give them the receiver number and card number and you'll be up and running in minutes.

I have 4 receivers, 2 in the mh and 2 in my home. I have a signed RV waiver on file with DTV. You only need this if you want to receive the east and west coast networks. DTV is the best for home and RV.

To re-activate a receiver all you have to do is go to your account at directv.com and click the receiver you want re-activated. The receiver will be automatically re-activated in seconds.

Reactivating is easy. De-Activating is hard.

Have had direct for over 4 years and no problems. They do handle tech difficulties and equipment replacement promptly. The only complaint I have is their lack of concern for anyone who wants to receive network feeds when traveling away from home. Turning off home system so you can have everything on motorhome account is no longer an option so the only way you can get it is by maintaining two accounts. A rather expensive proposition.

Someone should correct this situation because you can receive the channels in both places if you are willing to pay. The FCC excuse they use is stupid.

I have had Directv for over 13 years. The "dish" I have in the RV is so old but still works great and hope it continues as the receiver is a "Sony" and the dish has a led light on it that blinks when you are on the satellite, which is great as I can set it up by myself. (The faster it blinks the better the signal.) I don't know that they even make it anymore, but beats the audible signal as sometimes I have to be 50' from the motorhome to get a signal through trees, etc.
Regarding technical issues, I have found that if you get a person who has you on hold for that long, hang up and call back later as you probably got a tech with no knowledge of the system. LOL. This has happened to me several times and I now know that not all of them know much. LOL
Usually the second call produces a fix in a few minutes.

Did not intend to start another DirectTV vs. Dish dialog.

What I'm looking for is best way to get signed up for service. I called the telephone number on the website went through all the voice mail instruction and then the live person had me call another number because for an RV application she couldn't help. I continued to get bounced around through multiple numbers with no resolution. I kept very cool and polite thru the process... Finally asked for a supervisor but after holding 5-10 minutes I just quit.

I just wanted to sign up for a program where I would send them money every month in exchange for sat tv service. Was hoping someone here had the magic telephone number or password that would get me connected to the right department.
