They do it all the time. "Sun rot"...being out in the sun can destroy fabrics.
The end of the strap had a short length of rubber "dowel" sewn into it....slide it out of the track thats in the awning tube..take it to the RV shop to get the same identical diameter and re-install.

Most any RV dealer with a parts division will have them. Even Camping World ... they sell them for under $5. Or make your own from strap material and a small piece of dowel rod or rubber that will slide into the slot. In fact, I think you get 2 for about 3.99 (at least the last time I got them a year or so ago if I remember correctly)

I would start with the awning manufacturer. They might even give you a free one.

You can also order the original replacement strap (carefree or A&E) directly from Monaco's on-line store. I did that and they were a perfect fit. Got a new one for the main awning as long as I was already ordering and keep the old one for a spare.

lavocat, To replace the awning strap you have to slide the rubber dowel from the slot it’s in. This can be a pain because most of the time there is not enough room between the roller tube and the end cap. If you remove the end cap, you have to be careful that the spring does not unwind too fast. I have found that if you get a drill bit slightly larger than the rubber dowel and you drill a hole near the end of the at a 45 degree angle into the slot the strap is in, you can slide the rubber over and using a small screw driver get the rubber to enter the hole you just drilled it will come right out. The new strap will go back in the same way. Have done this a number of times ands it works. With the hole drilled off to the side, the strap cannot come out one its own, because the tension keeps it centered.

This is great advice. This is exactly how I replaced mine and it worked perfectly.

Never mind!..????...But I have NEVER had to remove the end cap and use a drill to get the end of the strap out of the groove in the awning tube????
