What's a good chemical to get butyl tape residue off of metal tools? My putty knives are all gooped up with the stuff. Thanks.

Toluene, also known as methylbenzene or phenylmethane

Toluene sounds like a good answer, but if you can't find it, similar solvents that should work are Xylene or simply Aromatic Solvent.
