I drive 20 miles round trip to work - she drives four miles round trip. I drive the truck - she has a 2001 Honda. I just put $90 worth of diesel at $4.75 a gallon in the truck. Her Honda costs about $50 to fill up.

I am going to miss my truck....

With that long a drive and the costs of fuel, you should be able to save enough to make payments on a snazzy little sports car and save the truck for camping!!!!

We've started carpooling. Greg's car doesn't get any better mileage than my truck, but gas is obviously less expensive than diesel. Seeing as most days, he works 9-5 and stops in our store anyway, he might as well hang around for an hour and we can ride together.

DH and i bought a decent used Mini-van for him to drive. The truck now sits in the garage except for towing. Got to say at the price of diesel fuel we have made up for the $2500 we pd for the van. We both work 30 miles from home of course in the oppisite directions. 60 miles round trip was costing about $100 a week with the truck now about $50 per week.

It depends on if your wife does extra driving besides the commute.

I tried that with my wife and we found that she actually ended up driving less miles to work but all the extra driving around she did, she got less mpg, ended up being about the same. Driving the kids to soccer and after school events should be added into the equation.

My truck stays parked execpt for camping and snowdays. I would sell it but then how would I tow the camper? I personaly take my motorcycle to work pretty much year round. 42 mpg beats 12.9 any day of the week and twice on Sundays. Thus if you enjoy riding it might be a good selling point to the spouse for you to buy a new motorcycle. It worked for me.
