Other than possibly a lower price why would you not want to buy from your local dealer?

No advantage whatsoever other than price.

OTHER THAN...I don't know about you, but OTHER THAN doesn't exist. Saving THOUSANDS of dollars is worth a drive to pick up a new anything - just think how much gas you can put in that thing with your savings?

ONE possible reason to NOT use your local dealer: you can research dealers as well as RV's and find out what consumers think of him. Some (a lot) of dealers don't do well by their customers and the consumer reports on them as well. www.rvreviews.com will give you the info. on dealers as well as the brand of RV you're looking for. If you want to know if someone has had a problem with your dealer, type in the name of the dealer and search - if they had a problem, they'll report it.

Hope this helps.

Possibly in some areas of the country, you may not be able to get the brand and model you want in your area.

In days gone by buying local was wise because you could expect customer support on the products you bought.

Customer service is a thing of the past.

I generally get better support from products I buy on-line than things I buy local.

One other possiblity that comes to my mind is if the dealer is a jerk. I'm presently waiting on a reply to an email inquiry from my "local" dealer for Work-n-Play (90 miles away). Haven't heard a peep since I sent it 5 days ago.

Had A co-worker who drove 250 miles to do business to avoid a jerk dealer less than 10 miles from him. Dealer attitude is huge.

The dealer closest to me (50 miles away) has a questionable reputation, negative unresolved issues according to the BBB, and wanted $5000 more for the trailer than I could get out of state, delivered to my door. That's why I bought online from out of state.

Money is tight for most everyone. Why the heck would you pay your local dealer sustantially more money for the priviledge of buying local. There is still no guarantee of good service.

what about when you need service? or some of the little fit and finish issues that most new rv's need. Its been my experiance that the local dealers are not too receptive to doing the work.

Selection. Some smaller dealers just don't have the inventory to offer you the rig you want right off the lot.

Stying power in a tight market. Buying local doesn't mean much if the dealer goes out of business. In my case, the dealer stopped handling MH's and went back to only towables but was selling a high percentage of them over the Internet.

Length of warranty which is usually one year. On the bright side, some components are longer than that and can be serviced anywhere and often directly from the manufacturer.

The entire marketing strategy is changing. Even as populated as North Texas is, there are only two dealers that handle my brand within 50 miles of me, but at the last show, they were both eager to get my maintenance business.
