so if you do have a local dealer and they do have a good rep, it is probably better to pay a little more and buy from them?

Never!!!

Buy from the Cheapest Dealer

and put the Local Dealer

I shopped online and got a pretty good price from a dealer two states away on the model we are considering. When I went to my local dealer (Who carries the same model) he was about a thousand more and said in a round about way that if I needed service, they would service it, but I would be put at the end of the line...said it would not be fair to his customers if he serviced mine ahead of thiers...

what about when you need service? or some of the little fit and finish issues that most new rv's need. Its been my experiance that the local dealers are not too receptive to doing the work.

Not always true. I bought from Terrytown but they dropped the ball on service. General RV sells the same brand and was very interested in helping me. American RV did the Dometic recall service on the fridge without question. We live in a great area for options (Grand Rapids MI)with fierce competition between dealers within a short distance of each other. They know it and will service a unit sold at the competition to get the next sale.

With the money you save,

You can Pay someone else

to fix Your RV

and it will still be much faster

than waiting for any Local Dealer

and You WILL Still SAVE MONEY...

I rarely ever pay WA State SALES TAX when I buy online.
Cheapest price wins.

Where do you generally need some service to an RV? Probably not at your local dealer when you happen to be 3000 miles away. ; By general definition of RV'ing you are probably not in your back yard when something goes wrong. So any $$ saved upfront come in handy down the road...

We are from Hawai'i and had no choice but to buy out of state. We have been fulltiming for over 4 years and during warranty period had a few Florida dealers refuse to service us as we did not purchase from them. As I absolutely needed service I contacted Keystone and they forced one of the Florida dealers to service our rig. After warranty period I always use independent repairers for service needs. They will usually come to your campground and are far less expensive. In researching for our purchase online we found a company in Oregon that saved us $3,000 over nearest price and there was no sales tax.
Good luck w/your decision.

Because the local dealer won't deal.

Thanks for all the replys to my questions. I think I will pay a little more and buy my new rv locally. I believe in the long run I will be better off
having a good relationship with my local dealer. I guess I'm still a little old fashion and believe its service first and price second.
