I read Lug_Nut's article on Comfort Steering on his new Newmar unit and became very interested. Unfortunately TRW the maker of this product currently has an exclusive with Spartan and Newmar and don't currently have plans to sell it as an after market product. Lug_Nut suggested Howard Power Center Steering by River City Products as an alternate, but unfortunately, River City Products is currently up for sale and are no longer shipping product. The gentleman who is taking their calls suggested that if the Safety Plus steering system is properly installed, it can be a relatively inexpensive (about $750.00 installed in my rig) alternative to the Howard Power Center Steering which would go for about $3,500.00 installed. Has anyone out there had experience with the Safety Plus System? If you have, I would appreciate hearing from you at mtnrgp@aol.com

Thnk you,

I have the Safe-T-Plus on mine, I really find it works well, definitely keeps the MH straighter easier, it helps but does not eliminate the transport truck push when they pass you but overall a big improvement. Also gives a little peace of mind in case of a blowout.

I put one on my 1998 Beaver Monterey and was very pleased. Helped a lot in the truck rutts and on severly crowned roads or highways. It also made it less likely to over steer in side winds.

Safe-T-Plus is the way to go. This will make my 3rd coach w/ one installed. Makes you wonder why they don't do it at the factory.

Safe T Plus works as advertised....if you are at all mechanically inclined you can easily install yourself. I have done so twice in under an hour......They occasionally go on sale at Camping World or you can find vendors on internet..

To Dogbone, bkd148, riggarob, spitfirepete,

Thank you all for the in-put. I really appreciate it.

We just got back from a fairly long trip, and while I love my rig, the constant adjustment necessary on these big rigs leaves me pretty tired at the end of the day. I am someone who likes to drive and have driven over a 1,000 miles in a day in a car, but 300 to 400 hundred miles is my max in the motor home because of the tension. Now that I'm retired there is no need to drive any further in a day, but it would sure be nice if I could be a little more relaxed at the wheel and it sounds like Safe T Plus will help a lot.

Thanks again,

I too, have one for a P-30 Chevy chassis, but you should really go to the Safe-T-Plus web site, and make sure of your application. Also, even if the "shock" is the same, the mounting bracket may be different. That is why the one from my '93 Southwind is in the garage, waiting to go on "Craigslist", and the one from the '07 Southwind, I just traded for an '08 Providence, will fit the Freightliner chassis, BUT, I have to get a new mounting bracket. 70 bucks to switch isn't bad, though.

Your welcome mtnrgp, you should jump on that one, thats how I got mine also, it is a very easy install. Like the poster above says though, make sure it is the one made for your MH.
