I worked for a large trucking company in NJ and all of our tags were blue.

HedoT,
You could have a blue tag for your application. It would just be for a commercial account. I could get tags for my car and 1/2 ton on the same account. My "towing" tag has a sticker on it that says pickup towing a 2 axle trailer, tag vehicle code 211 (4H pickup). Yours should be listed for your SUV towing a 2 axle trailer. Tag vehicle code should be 080 (4L SUV).

Hi Steve,
I just called the 800 number from the web site so I guess I got lucky. I really thought that it would be a hassle dealing with gov't entity.
When you wrote that, did you mean the CSF? If you did, believe it or not, even with as many as 18 crossing /day, it is a family owned business.

I live on the North Fork, one of the last unspoiled spots on LI.

I go up to RI a lot. My oldest son bought a summer house in N. Kingstown and has spent the last 3 yrs. renovating it on weekends. He put in hookups for our 5er. I guess he wants more babysitting. I camp at Ft. Getty in Jamestown and have res. for this Aug. Was there for the tall ships last yr. I might try the Navy campground by the War College this year. I better go before they start yelling at me for being off topic.

Hi Ed,
I meant the NY EZPass system as the gov't entity. The Cross Sound Ferry has been great! Have you taken your 5er on the ferry? They charge by the foot don't they? There are an awful lot of trucks filled with rocks that go on the ferry. I took a pic of the truck next to me in the John H. One ferry must have had 5 trucks with rocks that disembarked at Orient Point (probably common for them) when I was waiting about a month ago.
The North Fork is really nice. I've been to Legends Restaurant a couple of times.

Hi Steve,
Yes, I have taken my 5er on the ferry. Yes, they measure you and charge by the foot. My total length is 48' It's about $100 each way with driver and 1 passenger. It sounds expensive but for me to drive west to NYC and then back east again in Conn. to New London it would take 4-5 hrs. depending on traffic. If you count in the tolls, fuel cost and aggravation, the ferry is the only way to go. The ferry guys and girls are great. When I come back from a camping trip in New England on a busy Sun., when some of the boats are full, I always make res. Sometimes I arrive 1-3 hrs. before my res. Four times in a row they have gotten me right on the next ferry even when the standby parking lot is full. I think it's because they want to clear large rigs out of their parking lot. Whatever it is, it's great for me.

The rocks are probably to make jettys along the LI Sound coast which is eroding rapidly. We have a lot of sand and gravel but few rocks since LI was formed by the glaciers pushing New England's top soil down here 12,000 yrs. ago.
