We pay attention to any blog that is frequented by RV'ers either full-timers or wanna-bees-like-us. We are going full-time next year. We see in all sites the cross section of society... some of thats good and some of that's not-so-good in that ego's too often get in the way of meaningful dialog.
Escapees are elitist?
Not any more so than we see here.... or anywhere.
Some children just never seem to grow up in the head.
Yes, we have opinions and we share them often, but we also TRY to see when it is best-in-the-situation to just clam up. There was a reason your momma kept telling you to shut up.
Get on with the important things in life.
If an op isnt motivated to check it out for themselves, then so what?
O.K.... I'm done.
We are newbies
We will retire June 30th and become full timers in July
I've read a lot about Livingston post office box addresses
but would like to know how you get an Alabama permanent address.
Does Escapee's mail service provide an AL address?
Thanks,

Tom and Brenda,
Welcome. Escapees does not operate a mail forwarding service from Alabama. AL isn't one of the popular fulltiming states, maybe due to the tax laws or... dunno. One of the UPS/Mailboxes type places will forward mail from AL, but establishing a domicile there might be more difficult. If there is no overwhelming reason for Alabama, there are other states in the southeast which are popular.
They are Florida and Tennessee. TN, last I inquired is kind of "iffy" but Mail Call USA still has an ad in September's Highways magazine from Good Sams Club- one of the Affinity Group companies (Afinity owns this website).
Good Sam's Mail Service is the affiliated company out of Pennsacola. Good Sams membership is required but membership is inexpensive. I've heard a lot of good things about the sevice. Their website is... odd. My computer security settings don't allow its content to load.
I've also heard many good things about St. Brendan's Isle Inc. . They're on the east coast of FL (Green Cove Springs) and originally catered to those who travel the world aboard boats. This is the service I'm going to use.
And then Mail Call USA . They're having problems with the county and although for me they (Tennessee) would have been best. I found it wasn't worth the risk of having to change again.
There are other popular states in the northwest. If you don't get Highways magazine, PM me and I'll send you the rest of the mail forwarding websites from the classified section. Pricing on these is fairly similar for similar service- most have different levels of service. Escapees is high because of the membership fees.

I don't appreciate that. Others seem to like the outfit and/or do not object to the hugging. Maybe they don't do that anymore. My hugs are reserved for people special to me. We're happier with Good Sam.
When they come at DH, he always tells them he bought the "hug free" membership! We agree. The hugging is annoying!

You know this talk of "elitism" is found on just about any site that has discussion forums. If you go to the Hitchhiker website and make a criticism about your HH rig, you will be immediately condemned as a rablerouser or worse. Same thing holds true on just about any discussion website you go to, if you have a problem it must be your fault. The cheerleaders come out of the woodwork.
Over on the Escapees site, one person made a comment about how she felt excluded at the latest Escapee National gettogether. She was immediately made to feel that it was her fault that she felt that way.
I guess I see both sides to this. I am an Escapee and have not met any "eliteist" members in person yet. All the SKP ers I have met have been warm and very nice. I have not been to an SKP rally yet so I cannot say whether the exclusionary feeling was valid or not, hopefully we will be able to attend the one in 2009 in Missouri. I have seen the "brainy know it alls" and "pile it on ers" over there just like I have seen the same behaviors of non SKP ers on this site. These people may be the salt of the earth and may invite me to share their campfire on a regular basis should I come across them in a camp ground, but they sure do turn off a bunch of people with what they write!
