I agree, do away with all the laws that protect idiots from themselves and in their place pass a law that says no public or tax monies may be used for the treatment or care of any person injured due to not wearing proper safety equipment. Also require all MC riders to carry a minimum of $500K in personal injury protection insurance.

You have to love a system that works like it's supposed to: people get together and work to change a law they don't believe in, and it gets changed. HOORAY!! That, my friends, is the American way.

I would like to see regulations that allow an insurance company to pay only 50% of claims if the "injured" is not using seat belts, helmets, or whatever. I pretty much agree about having the government protect me from myself. If I am of the mind set that I won't wear seat belts, then fine, my choice, and I should be the only one to pay the consequences.

There should, however, be laws covering children who are not capable of making such decisions for themselves.

I have heard a number of arguments against helmets, and seat belts for that matter. None of them hold up in a logical conversation.

On the other hand, I see more an more skier wearing helmets. I was even considering to buy one at after season sale. Still got the sticker shock.

My helmet keeps my head nice and warm while I'm skiing. As far as sticker shock is concerned, I remember what an old motorcyclist told me once: "If all you've got is a five dollar head, get a five dollar helmet." Puts it all in perspective...

I think that since many if not most of you do not ride motorcycles or even bicycles but you vote for these protections every chance you get you should be eager and willing to accept any and all protections that will save your life or limb. But I don't see any of you wearing helmets while driving your vehicles nor wearing a safety harness while showering (remember, most accidents occur in the home).

Of course, some use the financial burden argument but anyone crippled doing any activity would be a financial burden on society. Like those that not only ride motorcycles but also those that are injured doing other activies like walking, swimming, cooking, etc. Accidents occur all the time that could have been prevented with the right safetly equipment or procedure. Maybe we should also invoke laws for these behaviors. And beside, you are a financial burden even if you are not injured -- unless you are in the top tax brackets you are a financial burden on society just by existing.

As far as insurance is concerned, people buy insurance to protect themselves from accidents which in most cases are caused by errors in judgement, most likely their own. Penalizing people for purchasing insurance and not following basic safety protocols is between the insurance company and the insured - no one else's business!

So not wearing a helmet while riding a motorcycle is nor more stupid or idiotic that anyone driving a car while tailgating, exceeding the speed limit, driving after having an alcoholic drink, talking on a cell phone or other distractions, etc., etc., etc. All of these actions are unsafe and many, many people have been injured or died from believing they were in full control of the situation.

I would challenge anyone and everyone on this forum that you are guilty of at least one unsafe behavior on a fairly frequent basis that others have died or were injured doing. Should we create laws against every action that can cause injury or death? I sure hope not!

WHY,,, after so many years and money that it took to pass the helmet law in certain states (PA.etc) what the heck was their reasoning for rescinding such a important safety law?? Pa. has had 4 deaths just this week where the driver would have survived if wearing the helmet, what were the legislatures thinking?

If we made seat belts optional for everyone over 50, we could start to save our social security program.

Anyone not wearing a REAL safety helmet and not a worthless retarded Harley pot on their head should pay 100% of their medical bills when their melon hit the pavement.
