While I have stayed at American Heritage and agree it's a nice RV Park, there are some others also worth mentioning here, and some that are not as nice.
Anvil Campground, Nice place...close proximity to train tracks makes it an unpleasant stay though...

American Heritage Campground... This one is about the furthest out from Williamsburg itself, but it's not that far out, still very close to everything, and is considered the best in the area. Big campground, sites can be a little small and it has very clean rest rooms, lacks a playground for the kids...

Chickahominy Riverfront Park... This is one of the lesser known campgrounds in the Williamsburg area, it's operated by the county, has some full hook-up's and is a very nice little campground. Not too many people know about this place...

Jamestown Beach Campsites... CLOSED
KOA... These two KOA's are basically across the street from each other, both located on Newman Rd in Williamsburg. Both seem to by typical KOA's...

Newport News Park & Campground... If you prefer something more like a state park than a RV park, this is the place. Located on the Newport News - Williamsburg city line, very close to all the Williamsburg activities, water & electric and 4 of the 5 loops, some waterfront sites...no swimming beach or pool even though it's located on a reservior... Very affordable, run by City of Newport News...

Chippokes Plantation State Park... Since we mentioned State Park, why not throw this one in. Located in Surry County across the James River from Jamestown & Williamsburg. Easy access via FREE ferry that runs from Surry to Jamestown, has water & electric sites & pool. Take you just a little longer to traverse back and forth, but the ferry ride may be worth the extra time!!

And finally....
Gosnold's Hope Park Campground... This one is the least known of all, and is located in Hampton Va...about a half hour or so from Williamsburg. Electric and water hook-ups and only about $10 per nite...small, no reservations, even the people of the city of Hampton don't know about this little gem!!
