Can't remember but do you have to have a passport going into Canada by RV/car this year?

Not if you're a US citizen. However, you do have to have birth verification (original or certified copy of birth certificate) plus govt-issued photo ID (driver's license) for everyone in your party.

A passport would be necessary for you to re-enter the US if you had to fly home from Canada for some unforseen emergency.

Better to have and not need than to need and not have...

It took only ten days for ours to arrive after we dropped off the paper work. Fill out this form, print it, and take it to a passport acceptance facility with a check or cc. They are good for ten years and will be required beginning next year.

To come into Canada? No. You need proof of citizenship and government issued photo ID - birth certificate and driver's license (children are OK with birth certificate) a passport satisfies BOTH these requirements.

To return to the US, you need the same documentation.

This will always be a tricky thing for the US government to implement. They are NOT Allowed to prevent US citizens from entering the US. It is just a matter of being able to prove this.

They can and often do whatever they want at the border. They are not required to accept anyone.

Actually, Ozimo, the US is required to allow US citizens to enter. It is up to YOU to prove you are a US citizen.

I am not, nor will I ever be one. Iceland is my next best place.
