Non-towing mixed 14.5 MPG long term avg.
Towing @ 60 MPH = 7.9 MPG
Towing @ 65 MPH = 7.8 MPG
Towing numbers for flatland freeway little or no wind.

This says that by driving 65 instead of 60 I will complete a 600 mile day 48 minutes sooner and burn $3.00 more gas at $3.50 per gallon. Would I pay $3.00 to get off the road 48 minutes sooner? You bet!

When I travel with friends fuel mileage seems to mysteriously go down. They brag about how good their mileage is. But when we stop for fuel and I go over to read their pump they come up will all kinds of excuses why it has taken so much fuel. People seem to exaggerate about the fish they catch and the fuel mileage for their trucks.

I tow a 1973 Compact Jr. with a 2002 Toyota Sienna. The trailer is 13' long and weighs 1400 lbs. The minivan has a 3 liter V6 that makes 210 hp. Last summer I towed from Texas to Oregon and back averaging 16.1 mpg for the trip. Drove between 60 and 65 mph.

Just returned to Texas from Ohio. No trailer on this trip. Four adults and luggage for 8 days on board. Cruise control set at 70 mph. Averaged 25.6 mpg.
