I installed a Scangauge and was amazed at the "instantaneous" MPG ratings over 3000 miles. On the flats, 8+, downhill pick any 2-digit number, but going uphill, 4-6 MPG was common, even though the grades didn't fell like hills at all.

Yes and going down hill you can feed the gas and still get 17 MPG! Wooo Hooo! Scan Gauge makes you think twice about going over 56 MPH

I am this close to ordering one of those ScanGauges - it sounds like they're easy to install, and give a lot of real-time information.

I had a real-time MPG reading on an old Chrysler T&C minivan - it was quite educational to say the least. Better than the old-time vacuum gauge, IMHO.....

I'm going to order from ScanGauge today. Let's see which source is quicker. Send me a PM when you get yours.

Edit: I forgot to say "please". Please send me a PM when you get yours.

8.7 is pretty typical on my coach, although I tow a boat usually and we are in California, which has a poor MPG gas formula (believe it or not). Scangauge is a great tool and is very easy to use.
