Does anyone out there carry two canoes over the cab of their truck when towing their 5'ver? If so, I would love to see some photo's of your canoe rack. I want to build one for myself and would like to see some ideas.

Thanks

You can use a front hitch receiver and then either a Yakima or Thule goalpost style rack along with at least one crossbar on the cab (two if you want to do bikes or skis). Any outdoor store that specializes in bikes or canoes/kayaks will carry Yakima and/or Thule components. Two suppliers that I've used are REI and Rack Warehouse. I usually only carry one canoe at a time, but two is not an issue.

There are a few on the forum who have constructed there own front rack and a couple who have built a front rack that goes all the way back to the pickup bed. A lot of work but it accmplishes the same thing.

Boy look at that! Another good reason that I didn't get a 5er, hahahahaha

One thing people don't do but as an anchor point is to use the two braces (under the hood on either side of the firewall) and bring up a couple of short rope slings thru the cowl. This allows one to tie off the canoe right in front of the windshield thus eliminating a tie point from the front bumper. I've used a couple of stout bungees off of my rope slings to the cross member on the canoe and then a tag line down to the back bumper of my avalanche and now am dreaming of a similar setup for the Silverado CC. It's good to have a trailer!

My pic only shows one canoe but on the same trip I had 2 canoes side by side. Or I have 2 bikes and one canoe.

I have the same set up AlanW does and we DID carry two canoes this weekend
on our 3 hour trip to the Keys near Key West.

They worked out fine, though the DH kept complaining about them being 2-3 feet
in front of the bumper.......hahaha..........

We usually carry one, but our friends wanted to take theirs and they had not
done their set up yet for their new fiver - so we took both.
No problems. Ours is 15'6" and theirs is 16'6".
