Cruise control now works, helps if you are going over 50mph before trying it

Jon touched on a remote but possible cause. On our 02 Dolphin the cruise worked intermittently. Very frustrating. After 4 years and 25000 miles I discovered the brake pedal was not coming completely back to position. I started pulling it up with my toe after braking, only a fraction of an inch, and the cruise worked fine. Worth a try... and its free...
good luck

Think I havee, it, thanls for the recall tip. Googled that one, found a thread in another forum that spoke of the recall. OK, funny thing is, I was under the hood last night, found some wires with a connector alll taped up. This always piques my interest. Unwrapped the tape, looked around and saw a connector on the bottom of the master cyl. Matched up. OK, now today I find the recall info, found if you couldn't get the recall part for the cruise, to disconnect the wiring harness rom the master cyl and tape it up.

What an amazing thing this internet. I think it just might catch on.

Thank you to al G!

Update. Went to Gator Ford in Seffner, FL for the recall on the Cruise. It was done and I was out of three within about 45 minutes. Cruise now works perfect! Thanks for the reminder about the recall. I remember when it was announced, but totaly forgot it as I didn't have an effected vehicle at the time.

Take the Ford cruise control recall seriously. The problem has burnt up a lot of vehicles and homes. Most of the fires start when the vehicle is parked. It does not have to be running. There is power to the faulty switch all the time. Lots of info on the forum about it. Instead of getting the recall fix done the previous owner may have unplugged the harness from the cruise kick off switch on the master cylinder.

Mine failed because the factory didn't leave enough slack in the wire bundle that runs up the steering column. So whenever I moved the angle of the 'tilt' steering wheel, the bundle tugged on the connector in the column. Eventually, it would come loose. Shutting down the cruise control.

Giving the bundle more slack is all it took to fix it.

This is the area I wanted to suggest as well. Rather than pulling it loose from the connector, it's also a possibility that the wire was rubbing at the point of tilt inside the column, cause a direct short.

I have the Ford F53 chasis in my Rexair and have had the problem where my cruise control would not activate, the trans shift points changed and the speedometer didn't work. Thanks to open roads forum which told me to replace the speed sensor on the differential the problem was repaired. I had the Service Engine Soon dash light stay on all the time so when I took it in for the fix on the cruise control wiring they cleared the problem and wanted to put in a new sensor to the tune of a couple of hours labor, bought another one and put it in myself in about ten minutes and the light never came back on again. Note: my cruise control was still working when I changed the sensor so think the light was from the previous problem I had but didn't correlate the fix to that.
Something to check anyway. Part cost is about $25 plus tax of course.
