You may have an impact fracture, meaning a bird or some such item, not sharp but blunt and fairly dense.

I had my sides replaced because of delaminatation or frog skin as the factory called it. A parts guy noticed my decals had a rough texture to them. I always thought it was just air bubbles in the decals. Well the factory replaced the filon sides with gel gloss and said they had a bad batch. I think I also read on this site something about RV manufactuers suing the filon manufactuers.

The front cap on my 07 Raptor is doing the same thing, there is one area with a ton of horizontal cracks. Maybe six to eight inches long. I dont think they used to be there. It does not really bother me, but I am going to have the dealer fix it prior to my warranty expiring in August. Mainly so if it does it again in a couple of years I will have some recourse.

It does not look like anything hit it.

I had the same spider cracks on my Fleetwood Gearbox. I used a wet erase marker to circle the spidercracks. I was at the dealer when their paint/body vendor came by to take a look at it.

He said it is very common on the front fiberglass caps because of the flex that they experience. He said it was the gelcoat that was cracking due to the flex. The way he said he was going to fix it was to repaint with automotive paint which will flex more then put gelcoat over that.

I had six or seven on mine and the service writer tried to tell me it was from a rock chip! Huh......... told her I didn't think so, especially since there were cracks on top where the cap rolled over the roof.

The paint and body guy said a lot of mfgrs don't want to do the automotive paint but, Fleetwood went ahead and paid for it.

good luck.

Well, I'm glad to hear I'm not alone. I'm still not sure exactly what caused it as it's not a straight line crack. There are 5 or 6 about 1" long all originating from a central point. It could be an impact crack but there is no evidence of something hitting it.

I've tried to take some pictures for the dealer but they do not show the cracking. Rubbing dirt in the crack as suggested will not work as the crack is below the surface. Looks like I'm going to have to haul it down to them (over an hour away) to take a look. I sure hope Keystone steps up as the warranty expired on the 10th.

Spider cracks......
The body guy that fixed mine said it was stress fractures in the gelcoat caused by flexing of the cap.

Seems to make sense. Was there a particular reason most don't like to use automotive paint? Simply a matter of cost or difficulty?

I was told it was a cost factor. The body guy said he would write the bid to submit to the mfgr for warranty and see what happens. the mfgr ok'd it.
