You're going on a trip "out West".
"Out West' - could be the mountains, close to the ocean, or the desert . . .
some or all of the time. (you didn't say where you're going)

Already mentioned but, three thoughts:
1. If you don't have it and overnight without hookups where it's hot -
you WILL miss it to run the A/C.

2. You said it's a 6500 watt Coleman. Sounds like a contractor generator.
If so, could be a problem with noise - depending on where you are.

3. I've gone on long trips -with- the gen and used it one night.
But - you never know - and everyone makes different choices for destinations, and places to "overnight".
What works for me or someone else, may not work for you.
(My gen just stays in the pickup bed "forever").

If it doesn't take up space you need for something else, take it.
If you're pressed for space, don't. Only you have the answer.

have a great trip/vacation!

WE are going to San Diego. my big problem is that I have a tool box in my truck and with the hitch the gen will not fit. I looke at adding a reciver on the rear of the fiver and fabing up a tray for the gen but at this time I have not come up with any firm plans as to how and what I want. As far as the noise it is not to loud I had a friend make a baffle system for it as we need to run it in office building sometimes and can not have the noise.

The way I look at it is, if you take it (generator), you probably
will not need it, but leave it at home and you'll wish you had it at some point during your trip.
Do what you think is best for you own satifaction.
I believe I would take it
This is just my opinion

Hi All.

Well, that question is very simple for us. Since I built a Custom made Tool Box to house our twin Honda EU2000i's, and the Paralla kit. It is basically attached to our rear bumper with a 2 inch reciever and a 20X60 Platform, 24/7, 365 days of the year. I can remove it if I choose to, but we just leave it on all of the time. We have no hassels of any set-up time, or tear-down time, as they are always reay to be fired up. Our Honda's go where ever we go. Also they are SAFE, they are PROTECTED and they are SECURIED all of the time. We use our A/C way to much to leave our Honda's at home. What will you do, if you want to stop and take a break ,and its a super hot day ? You can't run your RV's A/C with out a generator. I'd rather carry the little extra weight, and always have our Honda's with us. Since they are Locked to the rear of our 5er, we never have to think about it. Why buy a generator, and then leave it home ? Kind of defeats the pourpose of buying a generator in the first place. Who knows, you might want to dry camp a couple of nights every now and then, and save a few dollars. We use our 5er off and on all year long, so for us, our rear Platform and Custom made Tool Box has served us very well over the last three years. Good Luck. Happy Camping, Dan & Jill

The main reason for a generator when not boondocking IMHO is for A/C. If you aren't set up to run it while running down the road and are camping in campgrounds with power, it is not needed. If you broke down on the road it could come in handy but what are the odds?

I carry mine & use it to keep the A/C on while crossing the desert but it isn't a necessity.

If you are staying where there is hooksups, I wouldnt bring it...... If you plan on stopping on the side of the road for a snooze, or to use microwave, then you may need it..... It can get hot out west.....

Not hateful. They are just a bit noisy.

so there is no other differance between a contractor type and a "rv" type, other than a noise factor?
