Is 52 amps the actual load on the genset or what it is rated for?
52x120=6,240 watts.

Understand my former genset was on my 5er. It was a gas unit. What you are describing is a low pressure fuel pump. Not sure how that fit in to the LP system. Read the code on the genset, it may indicate the problem.

tcr1016,
I also have a 1995 Safari Sahara with a 6300 lp Onan. I had a problem similar to what you are describing.
I thought it was the fuel supply when I started trying to figure it out. I replaced lots of parts, changed the fuel supply from liquid to vapor. Every once in a while it would work for a while making me think I was making progress.
Finally somehow, probably form this site I started looking at the electronics side of the generator . I called a company that offers regulators and circuit boards they claim are upgraded from the Onan design. It was Flight Systems. A tech got on the phone with me and had me take various readings with a volt meter while he was on stayed on the line as I called out the readings to him. He said it was the voltage regulator by the readings I gave him. I was skeptical, I was convinced it was a fuel delivery problem.
I ordered the voltage regulator anyway figuring anybody that had that much patience probably knew what they were doing.. After it arrived I put it in and it has run like a champ ever since.
I would at least call them and see what they say before you start down any other road searching for other types of problems with it. My generator had around 275 hours on it at the time.

These are all good suggestions. This happened to me this weekend. You didn't mention if you were using a Genturi or other "ass-on" devise for venting the exahust up and over the roof of the RV. I was and it was "chocking" the generator which sensors shut it down before damage could occur. I removed my Genturi and alas, no more porblem for the full Indy 500 weekend. Try this if using soemthing slimiar or check to see that the exhaust pipe is not clogged in anyway. Good luck.

I checked the blower fan and it blows alot of air out the bottom, so I do not think overheating is an issue. Now for some reason it will crank then die all the time now.

Could this be caused by spraying down the genny??

Any more ideas will be appreciated.

My LP 6500 Onan did the same as yours, turned out after replacing all the parts you did, I traced it to the LP vaporizer,it changes the liquid propane to vapor that goes to the carb.
It looks like a pan cake on top of the engine,it has the small liquid line in and a large one out to the carb.
The diafram goes bad inside and you can rebuild or replace with a new unit. I got mine off Ebay, new for less then 50 dollars, price from Onan was over 400. Have run the jenny for about 50 hours since and works great,
.Gen. had about 250 hours on it when this problem started.
The vaporizer is a common part used on fork lifts, problem starts when you only run jenny for short times this 10 minute or so will cause a gum to form and ruin the vaporizer.I was able to pry up the top shroud enough to undue the lines and put the new one on.
Hope this helps.

The unit on my gen. was a Impco, make sure you replace with the same one you have . They have different operating pressures.

I want to thank everyone for the suggestions.

moss2940,

You hit it right on the head. Replaced the voltage regulator and runs like a charm. Thanks a million.
