Anyone ever done major wood replacement in a fleetood. My damage is in the front where the camper rides against the bed of the truck. Thanks

I waited but no one else replied. No Fleetwood , but a Jayco.
First, can you get it into a covered/enclosed area to work on.
It helped for me then to think it was put together by man, so I know I can reverse the procedure...
If your re-build time is spread out, take notes or better yet pictures
Support the bottom with saw horses as well as your jacks, 50/50.
Now would be a good time to buy a 120v staple/brad gun.
There are many better sealants out there today other than Silicone. I like Sikaflex !
Western Cedar is very rot resistant.
Solid foam insulation wont sag like fiberglass...Tape joints on the outside, between foam and wood framing.
Just before applying insulation, spray a wood sealant (polly) over all new wood after inside wall (if need be) has been replaced. (As a backer)
Wood gussets fortify the frame/wall butt joint very much.
House wrap called Tyvek is supper between aluminum skin and wood/insulation, it breaths.
If not Tyvek...10 mill plastic, ONLY on the outside of wall. It does not breath.
Stainless steel screws, Monel staples if available.
Cover raw wood framing of window with Tyvek, lapping to the outside of the wall's Tyvek. Or ...
Pella the window people, makes a sticky 1/16" thick rubber type tape used in new house window insulations/sealant.
Lexan...3/16, 1/4" thick, flat, heated or and bent makes a very good water proof when screwed connector.
Aluminum "Shingles" (flashing) bought as such, stapled makes good flat reinforced connectors.
Titebond 3, is a VERY good, economical, waterproof glue, IF, IF (!!!) clamped tight until dry.
Good luck.......................

John,

Do you have any pics? I'm going to replace some wood this fall. I would like to see what lies ahead.

I tore into the front (where the camper meets the truck bed) and replaced some of the rotten wood. All I really did was put a ban-daid on it until this winter. I really want to get to the wood under the jacks. What do I need to remove to get in there to remove do some more wood replacement?

Good morn' dj.
Sorry guy, I did this 6-7 years ago, never though of a camera then. After all who would want to see the inside of a rotten. I mean ROTTEN walled and front cab over walled campers? As I stated I too had never been inside on of these ether, I had bought the camper when it was a couple of years old, and looking at it then was un-decided was it really worth it !!! My conscience would not let me pawn it off on to another camper, so, it me or some one else that would have to do it. She had served me well, and how much would a newer on cost??? The main advice is start out safe and continue with nothing more prevalent in your mind. Take your time, and THINK !!! As you start from the out side in just look thing over, examining the last things that they did to put it together and start from there in reverse. YOU ARE GOING TO MAKE MISTAKES !!!! Yep, it going to happen. My background was construction, so I have a leg up maybe on you, in that I know what is out there as far as modern material. Its a challenge, like a lot of construction workers ever where, you have the rush later saying," I did that". Well maybe not, BUT....if so I will be here (maybe a little late at times) to pass on any advice/help you may want. As well as I have learned over the years, so will a lot of others at this site. Tread gently, good luck, and no mater what....Stay safe.................................John

Thanks John appreciate it. I will (once I start) get lots of pictures and get them in here so that when others get into this they have some sort of reference to fly by.
