If your back end sags from too heavy a pin weight the air bags help raise the tow vechile. As far as ride they ride stiff without the 5er, with the trailer I notice no difference.

I installed airbags on my Dodge and found that it helped the ride quality greatly. They raised the rear of the truck off the overload springs and stopped the bottoming out on the bumpstops on the concrete roads. Definately worth the expense. When not towing I reduce the air to 5 LBS as recommended in the instructions and the ride seems no different than it was originally.

They help the 5er ride even more than the empty ride. Between adjusting the shock and the bags I can make it ride as mushy or firm as I want. Mine had bags on it when I bought it and they looked great but one had a pinhole leak - I found it by testing them in a bucket of water. The looks mean nothing! I wouldn't buy used unless I tested them myself. No warranty on used and it's next to impossible to buy one bag (or even both bags) without buying the entire kit - I found out.

I put Firestone air bags on my truck 2 weeks ago, at the same time I also put rancho 9000 shocks on it. I pulled the trailer 100 miles on a curvey bumpy road since then, it helped the handling alot. I put 40 pounds in the bags and it raised the truck above the overload springs and I adjusted the shocks to the #9 setting and it works very well. I thought without the 5th wheel on it it would ride bad, But it rides good without it so Im leaving the 40 pounds in the bags.
Good Luck

My truck came with them and I had to ask the same question you are asking. What good are they?
After pulling the fiver with them and riding around with them set to 10 Lbs without the fiver, I would buy them again. I was told never ride with less than 10 Pounds of air, and use them to level out the truck when you add the fiver. So I add just enough air to take the "Squat" out of the truck when hooking up. Usually works out to about 45 Lbs and rides smooth, nice and level.
They slso help when hooking up. Just add air or bleed it from the drivers seat to help line up the hitch. I have an extra line from the compressor run to a quick disconnect installed on the trailer Plug-in. So I can air up trailer , truck, 4-wheeeler, bikes, or whatever.

Fun is that stuff that happens in between mistakes.

Love my air bags.... They take up to 90#... I run them at about 50 with the 5ver attached. Otherwise, it's like riding on cement shocks.

They're great for when you want to haul a bunch of gravel or load up with bags of cement.

I found a brand new set of the air rite on Ebay for 149.... I have the 2500 hd short bed and my dry weight on my trailer is like 5400 or so, and when Im all loaded , my truck would sag some... Havent tried it with the bags yet, but think it would help as far as look better, as far as ride????? But I wouldnt think it would be good for handling with a sagging rear end..

Also at the begin of May I looked at JCWhitney and they ahd them for like 224 with a 100 dollar gift card, but could ship until end of may.... check them out..

I recently installed Firestone Ride-Rites on my tv (purchased new off e-bay) and love them. Rub 15 lbs when towing and 5 lbs when not and ride and handling greatly improved. You can't go wrong with them, but I would reccommend new rather than used unless totally free.

Hi All.

We have had AIR-LIFT, 5000 lb air-bags on our last two short bed trucks. We would never even think of not having a set of air-bags ever again. They make it so you can keep your 5er perfectly level at all times. We have the on-board compressor, with the controls and guage inside the cab of our F-250 H.D. PSD. It also comes in handy for night time driving, just in case you head-lights are a little bit to high, and other drivers start to flash their lights at you. A quick flip of the switch, adds more air to your air-bags, and lifts your rear-end, and lowers your front end. So your head-lights won't bother anyone. Its also great if you have to use your truck to haul a load of lumber, or bags of cement, or a load of gravel. When we don't need them for hauling heavy loads our towing our 5er, we just let the PSI down to 5 PSI, and it doesn't change the stock ride one bit. As far as getting replacement parts for our air-bags, which we have never had to do. Where we had our AIR-LIFT air-bags put on, they can get any parts that you want, at any time. As long as you stay with a well known brand, parts should never be a problem. We espically like our air-bags for mountain driving, where there are some really sharp turns. The air-bags takes all the tilt out of tight turns, and the truck and 5er do much better as far as controling your Combo. We also have some very heavy duty shocks on our F-250 as well. Check before you by any brand, just good planning ahead. There is just to many good reasons to have a set of air-bags, verses not having a set of them. But each to their own. As I said, we would never have another truck with-out them, with either a short-bed or a long-bed truck. The only regreat that we have, is that we wished we would have gotten them on even sooner. Good Luck. Happy Camping, Dan & Jill
