I know many short bed owners love their trucks and so do I, but it ups the stress level for towing and at my tender age of 59 I don't need it. The truck was marvelous on the highway pulling hills and down with the EB and 6spd auto . My stress level went up making turns in the RV park and backing into the driveway at home even with a manual slider .
We found a place that will convert the short bed to a long bed the price is reasonalbe an in the long run it will be worth it. a local dodge dealer takes their conversions there. This is my opinion and even if it was Ford or Chev short bed I'd feel the same way.
Throw some info my way if you feel I need to look at other options
Thanks
Bob

Wouldn't a auto slider hitch be much cheaper than converting your truck?

It's a real shame that Dodge won't offer the Megacab truck with full-length pickup bed. It really makes no sense at all not to offer it. GM and Ford both offer their crew cab trucks with a long bed, always have, for decades now. Short beds weren't even offered in 1-ton trucks untill 10 years ago, now that's all you can get if you want a real crew cab in a Dodge truck. Shameful...
The conversions I have seen on the internet look great. I don't know that I would go paying that much money to do that to brand new truck though, when Dodge could just sell it with the long bed from the beginning for what, maybe $400 more than the short bed truck?? What does the conversion cost, $2000 or more?? Not worth it, in my opinion.
I would have just chose a crew cab long bed from either Ford or GM if I couldn't get what I wanted from Dodge. Eventually, Dodge will figure out what they need to do. Untill then, they can keep losing sales.

Sounds like you need a PullRite SuperGlide automatic slider. I pulled a large Cedar Creek fifth wheel with an 03 Dodge CTD short bed for four years. Never came close to hitting the cab. Never experienced any "stress" at all....

The cost for frame tooling equipment would cost them tens of millions, in addition the wheelbase is probably 200 inches and way too long, would lower GVWR and towing ratings, and their would be manuverability complaints from the getgo.

I towed an Alpenlite 5th wheel more than 15,000 miles with a short bed truck and never felt nervous about it. Get an automatic slider and "don't worry...be happy"!

If all I was going to do was tow I beleive that would be an option, but for doing things that require the use of the bed I have no room.
I hate To admit I made a mistake but I was more in tune with the offer
and comfort it provided for the grandchildren, and I was a kid in a toy store, and failed weight all the pro's and con's

I understand that in 2010, Dodge may have a crew cab that is bigger than the quad cab and smaller than the mega cab. They might be able to offer a long box with the crew cab. I'd like to see a crew cab with a 7' box as a nice compromise.

That is a nice coach. I had one 4yrs ago then went to Tetonhomes. Watching 51" left and right of center swing close to the cab and I'm not turning that sharp bothered me. never was that close on the long bed I had. what a difference 18" makes.

The nice thing that Cedercreek did was round the end cap. my neighbor has one and that was the feature that drew him to the cedercreek for his short bed Dodge
