My propane gas leak detector keeps going off, so an unofficial test was to shut off the propane tank & ventilate unit well. My thinking is: if there truly is a leak in the system, the propane in the lines should have already leaked out by now and the alarm should quit going off at some point. Well, needless to say, the alarm keeps going off, trailer is just sitting there right now not being used. So, I know i need to take it in to get my lines tested.... but in the meantime, do these alarms have a lifespan?

Thanks in advance!

The average is 4 years, my Jayco is 4 years old next month, and guess what just died last week! They say 4 to 5 years, I tryed to use some canned air to blow out the sensor, it worked another week and died again...screeching like a banshee! I have a new one on order from Ebay...

The problem is a weak battery or electic charge going to the unit. This causes the alarm. Look at the unit. If the green light is on there is nothing wrong with the unit, if there is a red or yellow/orange light the unit is bad. Come into the shop I'm working at and I'll replace it. I'm in Sheridan, WY.

Green light is on (red while going off)...

Thanks, but I can't come to your shop -- can't afford fuel from Alabama

Yep, screeching like a banshee -- wonder how often it goes off when I'm at work and my 'retired' dog is alone in camper -- not fun for her!

Guess I need to find time to take it in, huh?

Ours started doing just like yours when it was a little less than two years old. I talked to someone with the company that made it and he said about two or three years was the life of most of them. He gave me a return number and I sent it in and got a new one in a few days. So far so good.

Thanks for the info....

Saw this on Camping world website, I guess they do have a lifespan, though I'm not yet convinced mine is going bad...

If I'm not mistaken certain things can set it off:

aerosol spray
paint fumes
PET HAIRS
etc

Your manual should spell this out & indicate how to remedy.

Ammonia will poison these sensors, too. Keep the Windex bottle far away and be careful when you spray it on your windows ...
