Anchor Aweigh it a fine park.......disadvantages are
about 7 miles inland (It is in Foley, NOT Gulf Shores)
NO shade
My favorite is Luxury RV, almost AT the beach, but
again NO SHADE.

I will attach something I sent to someone else which may help

You will cross a high bridge at Orange Beach AL, and in a mile or
so come to the Florida state line...a RATTY and FAMOUS bar, the
FloraBama. Stop for a beer........they have food too.
Back at Gulf Shores, I recommend (across the street from Luxury
R V) Original Oyster House. And, about 3 miles north at the intra-
coastal canal north side, LuLu's (sister of Jimmy Buffet). Has
an internet site with a menu. Further north, at Foley, is Lambert's
HOME OF THE THROWED ROLLS (Yes, the DO). Great food. At Foley
turn west on U S 98 and go about 5 miles to Jesse's. Also has
a website. At Foley is the Tanger Outlet Mall......women LOVE it.
Near it, south, is the Olde Pottery Shop.....huge, and they love
it too..not only pottery for sale. At Gulf Shores drive west
on 180 and take the ferry to Dauphin Island as a walkon. A
30 minute ride, then back again. VERY pretty. Windy..take a
jacket. At Luxury R V the main beach is about 2 blocks away,
easy walk. We were at Luxury last week, and the guests were
watching an alligator in the marsh next to the campground.
Luxury has a good pool.......and LOTS of sand. Get a footwiping
mat. NO shade.......tough in the summer ! If you come in from
I 10 (likely) use highway 59 and do NOT take the toll road....
you are going somewhat west of where it ends. Plenty of traffic
on 59.......expect it. 4 lane though, all the way.
If I forgot anything..............ask.

Anchor's Away is very nice.
Also good are Doc's and Island Retreat.
You will have fun at any of the three.
Enjoy your trip.

Just came back from Gulf Shores, stayed at State Park.
Great campground, close to beach and new facilities.
Reasonable pricing and campground not busy.

From the Anchors Aweigh ads and their website the place looks nice, your wife will love it since it's close to the Outlet Mall. If you're a golfer you'll be in heaven most anywhere in that area.
I agree with Norm on Luxury RV, used to go several times a yr., nice place and you can walk to lots of things including the beach. We haven't been back to Gulf Shores since Ivan, been going West to altitude and coolness but are going back again in July.
Doing things lots closer to home.

Reading your posts over several yrs. just didn't take you for a FloraBama fan.

For the rest of you. Great place, supposedly straddles the state line, rated one of the best Honky-Tonks in the country, on the beach with about +-4 bars (which are all in Fla. by the way due to Bama's Sunday blue laws). Summer Saturday and Sunday afternoons have numerous bands in different parts of the place. Millionaire Yuppies to Old Hippy Bikers and everything in between is the crowd, gets sort of rowdy but seldom any problems.

As of a month ago I was told Luxury RV was full for the summer or for my week so I made reservations at the State Park for the end of June.( I wanted a pool ( )
The State Park has a very nice pavilion on the beach with a bathhouse and shade within biking distance of the campground. I think sites closer to the beach lost their trees due to the hurricane from what I remember seeing last summer. There are some still some shady spots back around the lake if you can get them.

Without a doubt (in my mind), the state park is the best campground in GS. Full hookups, asphalt pads, close to the beach, great bike path, super clean bathrooms/showers, all at a reasonable price. Yes, most of the trees were destroyed by Ivan, but during the summer every park in GS will be hot and require A/C.

The FloraBama has lost most of it appeal for us. Since Ivan it has never been the same. By all accounts it was 90% destoryed. The owner (Joe) fought city hall to keep from having it labled unrepairable.
While it is open and still thriving it is not like it use to be (but then again what is?). They still have bands almost every night during the season and the great thing is you NEVER know what big "names" will drop by and sit in for a set or two.
Jimmy Buffet is known to drop by when he is in town visiting his sister.
