I have a bad stud on my brake axle. I can't figure out how to get the drum off. Is there some trick that I don't know about? I've tapped all around the drum trying to free it up but no luck. It feels like the pads are holding it on. Any suggestions?

Loosen your brake shoes up a bit and try again.

Back off on the adjuster. If "down is out," then turning the adjuster up several notches will move the brake shoes away from the drum and let the drum pull off.
If it is this hard to get off, then maybe the drum is grooved so much that it's time for new drums...and brake shoes, and maybe magnets, and maybe springs.

The drum and axle hub are one piece.
Remove the dust cap in the center of the hub. Remove the cotter pin and hub retaining nut and washer. Remove the outer bearing. The drum should slide off of the axle.
As others have stated, back off on the brake adjusters also

I hope you know how to adjust the wheel bearing nut when you put it back on. An improperly adjusted wheel bearing can lead to failure down the road. Might as well repack the bearings and adjust the brakes while you are at it.

I followed the instructions on the thread you posted. Brakes adjusted, bearings packed and wheel bearing nut adjusted correctly. Just out of curiosity, how do you figure 50 ft. lbs. on the wheel bearing nut. I have a torque wrench but nothing big enough to fit the bearing nut. (I know, get a socket to fit it, but otherwise...) Thanks again everyone..

Here's a quote from the Dexter PDF on Hubs, Drums and Bearings:
"1. After placing the hub, bearings, washers, and spindle nut
back on the axle spindle in reverse order as detailed in the
previous section on hub removal, rotate the hub assembly
slowly while tightening the spindle nut to approximately 50
lbs.-ft. (12" wrench or pliers with full hand force.)"
