Can anyone tell me if the wind in South Padre Island Texas is so strong that it blows the sand like it is sandblasting your rv?

Whenever you want to know weather and wind conditions, go to www.weather.com.
Type in the name of the city and state and when it comes up, click on it and you can see the temp. and wind. You also have a 10 day forecast and more info. I have weather.com on my favorites list and go their daily. Also, if you have the weather channel on satellite (Dish) you can do interactive weather and find out the weather in your location. It's a neat new feature I recently found out how to use. If you need info. on the "how to's", PM me.

We spent the winter in south Texas for the first time this year, and heard all the horror stories about the wind, but we found them to be a little over exagerated in most cases. The wind blows briskly (sometimes VERY briskly), and most days as well, but it was never anything that kept us from doing things we wanted to do. We left our awning rolled up, however.

Doesnt appear as anyone wants to answer the question......
Yes at times it can......and if you were to leave it long enough you would see the paint gone.....the sand blows in everywhere and even if you are a neat freak as to the housekeeping you will find some that you missed...... the sandblasting is relative to wind speed and direction..at times when you drive up to the north end of SPI you can see it blowing across the roadway.. they have a huge front end loader whose sole job is to keep the sand off the roadway and pushed back onto the dunes........this is not a warning....you will miss much more by not going there and by avoiding it...we love it there and visit it several times a winter....

I don't know of any RV park that is on the beach on South Padre. The biggest one is on the bay side and blowing sand would not be a problem for a short stay. Also, summer winds are no where near as strong as they are in the winter when the generally pick up late afternoon through sunset.

We usually spend a few days on South Padre, but depending where you park the salt spray can be more of a problem than the sand blowing. We generally stay at Isla Blanca, the county park, and if you can get a site closer to the bay side it is less of a problem. The KOA is also on the bay side but we found it expensive and had small lots. Our neighbor's sewer hookup was under our picnic table!
There is also the Andy Bowie park at the northern end of town. It is more remote but across the street from the convention center and the Laguna Madre Nature Trail - a great place to watch birds and butterflies. Andy Bowie is on the gulf side but protected by a large sand dune.
As others have stated the weather is quite variable. South Padre has a beautiful beach but occasionally the wind blows so strong that the sand feels like needles blasting your ankles. However for us it is still a "must visit" location.
