Anyone hear about the Carbon Monoxide death at the Indy 500? As I understand it, they were poisoned by their generator in their RV. Here is one link to the story:

Our detector has went off on two over night stops. It made me glad I spent the $36 especially because the kids were in there as well. The wind was in a direction that blew it back under the motor from front to rear. I do understand the alarm can sound at a very low level but I do not want to be sleeping with and CO.

We'll keep them in our prayers. Everyone check your generator exhaust pipes and keep them serviced.

Such a shame! When we use the genny, and are stationary, we route the exhaust above the coach. Cheap insurance.

The problem in camping with vehicles parked close together like in a parking lot, is that you are asking for problems. No wind and the Carbon Monoxide level is bound to get dangerous.

Not sure how parking close to another vehicle gets sod stuffed into the exhause pipe. Sounds like either a freak accident or a case of murder to me. How does one get sod in the exhaust pipe of a parked vehicle? Not impossible but unlikely at best.

Could be a steep driveway approach and the attack angle. Either way it is something to remember each and every time we set up camp or go stationary with the generator running.

What a shame, very sorry to hear that!
Last winter on the final leg of our trip back from Texas we departed the campground rather early. Stopped at the dumpstation and left the RV running during the operation with the window near the exhaust pipe about half open. About half way through the dumping process the DW shouts out the window that the CO detector is chirping and I am going to shut the RV off right now. I responded back saying good idea and open another couple of windows. Drove on home with no problems. Glad the CO detector works and we also have one in the back bedroom.

I posted on this topic yesterday and the sod question came up, too. I have gotten snow in my exhaust pipe backing into the snowbank just turning around in our driveway (this past winter, our snow piles just got closer and closer together, as we ran out of room to put the stuff). I'm assuming they backed into some dirt somewhere prior to parking.
