Dutch ovens are good but we just used the table top grill and the burners in the pop up to do the usual burgers, dogs, chicken, steak etc etc. We use our pie irons mostly for pies, apple or blueberry but I have been known to cook a burger or two in them as well.
In addition to the dutch oven, a good cast iron skillet is essential, you can cook most anything on the campfire with one. To boil water use a galvanized metal pail or porcelin coated pail and just cook away......just let the bottom and sides get black. To store it, have a big plastic bag to carry it in so you don't get other stuff dirty. A cheap charcoal grill comes in handy for steaks, burgers, brats, and other meat. And of coarse you need a big coffee pot to put on the campfire......check some old John Wayne movies to see the style you should buy. Coleman makes some pretty good cooking gear for roughing it!
We do foil packet dinners almost everytime we camp. A layer of onion, a hamburger on top of that and potatoes and carrots on top of that sealed up in a foil packet. Throw them on/in the fire, turn after a while and they will be done in no time. Getting them back out of the fire is the hard part...lol.

Haha. My kids will never let me live down my "potatoes cooked on an open fire." I wrapped them in foil and tossed them in the coals and promptly forgot them! When the kids discovered them *hours later* the potatoes were as light as a feather--because they had turned to charcoal! They had a great time unwrapping my potatoes and throwing them against the trees to watch them explode. Most fun they ever had

We always camp with electric but seldom use it for cooking. We never use the inside stove or propane for that matter. Anything we can cook at home can be done over the coals from the campfire. Cast iron cookware including the DO are a must for our camp kitchen. I also have aluminum pots and pans including a large stock pot that we use for heating water. We also have a campfire coffee pot but I will admit to using a large coffee urn most of the time. We always bring a bag of charcoal to supplement the campfire.
