I'm unable to load POI files from the Discovery Owners site ( Map Overlay Files) to Microsoft Streets and Trips (2006 version). I get a "file has bad format" message when I try to open the file.

Any ideas? Too old a version of S&T maybe?

I wouldn't think that is to old. I still load them up to 2004 Delorme Street Atlas.

They have good instructions on their web site for downloading to the various map programs. You might check there.

Are you following the instructions on this page to load the file into S&T?

Yes I am. I'm about to try it on my other machine which has the 2008 version of Streets and Trips. Stay tuned.

Were the download files in a zip or rar format? If so, then you have to unpack them before you load the file.

I use the files on Streets & Trips 2006 and on Delorme Street Atlas 2008 with no problem.

Ooooops. Discovered my problem. I was downloading DeLorme files but trying to install them in Streets & Trips. Amazing how much better it worked when I matched the correct file with the correct program. Thanks everyone.

Did you first UNZIP the file? The files are sent in ZIP format

I usually move them out of the zip and thus de-compress them

Then you use the Import Data Wizard. This is under the DATA menu or just CTRL-I

Use the default for file type and then name the fields as needed

It usually works 100% for me

AH.. You are using FILE-OPEN

You must use Data - Import Data Wizard

The files are, in fact, different formats entierly
