TPLynch (and similar)--

Do not kid yourselves. Quiet hour regulations apply to everyone, no matter how much they spent on their generator. There is nothing polite or neighborly about forcing other people to complain to you, just to get you to comply with the regulations we all must obey.

I must admit, I've had my eyes opened on the issue of generator "noise" and "polite" camping. First to see in a different post that some "polite" campers see nothing wrong with vandalizing other people's generators, now to watch this jerk try to rationalize his actions.

Folks, this type of behavior isn't excused by how much you spent on your generator or whether the salesman told you it was "quiet". No matter how much you feel you own the public campgrounds and are priviledged to re-write the rules as you please, there is nothing polite, or in many cases lawful, about your behavior.

"I also stated that I would turn it off if ever asked to."

I would guess that some folks would appreciate it if you turned it off but they either don't want the confrontation or it isn't quite up to the dreadful level.
Just because they don't ask, doesn't mean that they appreciate it being run. quiet hours are quiet hours. Period

Oh...forgot to detail how I was able to justify having a generator. I justify it because I wanted it! I have never used it in a campground (yet) but I have used it in various rest areas during lunch breaks on long drives and used it once to take my kid and his friends to an amusement park where DW and I didn't want to go in so we ran it all day and stayed in the TT with the comfy AC and watched movies.

We mainly drycamp at the dunes or in remote areas. Our Honda EU1000i runs pretty much 24/7 while im camping.

Too bad these off brand manufacturers have convinced their owners/buyers that they are quiet. It's obvious these people haven't heard a Honda or Yamaha yet!!!!

I tatally agree with this statement. People act like its a freight train in my camp. Its a super quiet box thats quieter than your screaming kids, or quieter than the diesel pusher pulling into camp at 11 o'clock at night. However if it is bothering someone I would gladly shut it off if im asked.

This thread:
1. Most responders boondock (that means wilderness, desert, forest, etc. not Walmart or Flyin' J).
2. Some Campground users justify making noise at any hour.
3. Some Campground users publically insult and name-call others.
4. Any question as to why many of us boondock & avoid campgrounds?

To answer the OP.

We justify the eu3000 as we also use it for backup house power. While desert boondocking in the summer we use it for the A/C.

The eu1000 is the battery charger for winter boondocking to assist the solar panels if needed.

We exclusively boondock.

I have to agree with you on this one.

NOT ALL CAMPGROUND ARE PACKED LIKE SARDINES LIKE RV PARK"ING LOTS"!

There are, in fact, campgrounds where your really could run you QUIET generator and no one would hear, at ANY hour. I have been to these places (sometimes called state parks).

If I am running my generator at my favorite state park, and I have a neighbor in the next site, I make a point of GOING TO THEM and saying that if my generator bothers them to PLEASE let me know. Their response is usually "YOU ARE RUNNING A GENERATOR??".

So don't you people even think of getting on TPLynch's case unless you know the exact conditions he's camping in. Save you flames for the selfish jerks with their contractor generators (and the REALLY LAME excuses they use to justify them!) who tell everyone to piss off if they don't like the noise.

If a tree falls in the forest and no one is around, does it make a sound? Yes.

If a generator runs "after hours" and NOBODY HEARS, is the owner a jerk? Certainly NOT! Heck, not even if it's a contractor generator!! (did I actually say that? )

Noise laws and rules are ONLY broken if there is someone to HEAR it.

When I camp in the DEAD OF WINTER, and I am the ONLY ONE IN THE CAMPGROUND, I blast my stereo and I run my generator LATE AT NIGHT! (OOOOooooo, I'm BREAKING the RULES! ) Funny how the only people upset about it seems to be people hundreds of miles away from me, sitting at their keyboards, posting on this forum. Even the Park Police smile and wave as they make their evening rounds (I know them well).

(Okay, I think I made my point... Granted, very sarcastically, but I made my point. )

What was the question again. O yes I remember. How can I justified a generator. Well in reality I have three. One is quite and 3000 watts the guy that sold it to me out of the back of his truck said so. It is good for campers and running solid state stuff when the power is out. The next one is a Robin Subaru 6000. Not as quite as the yellow 3000 but will run the 220 well pump and a small A/C unit.
Then I have a old old Home Light 3600. The muffler is about like a piece of water pipe. Don`t use it to power any thing any more but crank it up so I can`t hear old farts telling me how much noise my other two make and how quite a red one is..And they can`t wright me a note as they have there fingers in there ears. And yes I have used a red one as my son has one on a 38 foot fifth wheel that at the moment has been in the California desert for three weeks. They are quite I have not heard it yet down here in Florida.

Love your burglar alarm!

We have a generator in stick house for when storms take out power.

In over 160,000 RV miles, never wanted, or needed, a generator. BUT, we mostly stay in campgrounds. If we dry camp it is only overnite, so battery is all that is needed.

Thanks I just got to get my burgler alarm use to camping, Haven't quite got him there yet.

Thanks for all the replies I told my wife everybody has them. Ha Nah really We have been looking at doing some dry camping and looked at some solar panels and looked at the generator approach too. We just haven't made our mind up which way to go. i like the generator because I could use it at other places too. Thanks for all the replies Mike
